Been there, done that. I had rodents cause over $2500 in damage in one of my trucks. They built a nest under the turbo, which caught on fire, melting the wiring and part of the plastic tubing. I currently use ultrasonic and motion activated lights under the hood. That's mostly taken care of it...

Key would have to be in on position and be within ~35' unobstructed to the ODB2 bluetooth adapter.
