An article from Gearpatrol purports to reveal some new Ford Bronco details directly from a Ford Engineer familiar with the development of the 2020/2021 Bronco. Here's the summary of the claimed details:
    • Bronco is in 3rd design phase (typically, there's only one phase). Another design study has been commissioned because it looks too much like a Wrangler.
    • Basic concept is that it will look like a Ford Troller with 4 doors
    • No 2 door version because "there's just no market for it"
    • Removable modular roof that comes off in three sections (only top section removable, not back)
    • "They want it comparable [to the Wrangler] in every way, except rock crawling."
    • Will meet water wading depth requirements of 500mm
    • Raptor Bronco is not in the works yet
    • Powerplant will be similar to the 325 horsepower 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 found in Fusion
    • Hybrid version being discussed
    • Starting price in the $30,000 range
    • Still on track for 2020 release

Oh boy. Looks pretty bleak. The 6G concept is too perfect I guess. Ford's designers are apparently crippled beneath corporate market studies, the team managers are told to keep the designers grounded and in accordance with the market studies, and the corporate bosses have never owned a Bronco and therefore have no truly passionate inspiration to contiribute. It's mind boggling that Ford's higher-ups haven't reached out to the 6G team, acknowledged their great work, and then, having broken the ice, asked them to participate in the design process... no... actually hired them for stone-cold-cash-money... based on their nearly PERFECT viewer rating and fandom forum buzz, which places the 6G concept in the "must buy" column for those of us who might actually buy one. What data do they have that rates better than that? My guess is they're so out of touch, that none of them have really spent time sifting through the overwhelmingly positive response to the 6G concept. Shame on them for being so detached from the real world Bronco fan base. I'm not buying a Jeep wannabe.

First time contributor. Probably the last.

Sheesh, that rock crawling bit really sucks. I was hoping that it would excel in that category. I've followed this site for a while, first time poster. Hello everyone.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so glum. It's just that I can't understand how they could have worked their concept to a point where now it too closely resembles a Wrangler, when it's a Bronco they're designing! Why do they want it 'comparable to a Wrangler in every way'?! Shouldnt they be trying to channel the spirit of a Bronco, not that of a Wrangler?!

What makes the 6G speak to people is that it oozes with classic Bronco DNA, seen through a 21st century lens. That's because, by their own account, the 6G team started with a picture of a classic Bronco taped to their design room wall. It's sounds like Ford started with a picture of a Wrangler. Makes no sense.

But maybe this is all off the mark and they're really trying to do the right thing and will knock our socks off. One can hope.

    Ford Reportedly Won't Build a Two-Door Bronco
According to an anonymous Ford source, there's simply "no market" for a two-door SUV.

We really been hoping that Ford would build an old-school, two-door version of its new Bronco. However, Gear Patrol, speaking to an anonymous engineer source at Ford about the Bronco's development, has reported that the Bronco will exclusively be a four-door vehicle. This stands in contrast to the Bronco's main rival, the Jeep Wrangler, which will get a two-door version in its next generation.

Pictured above, a four-door Bronco rendering from fan forum Bronco6G.com.

When reached for comment by Road & Track a Ford spokesperson said that "we will have more information about Bronco passenger configurations closer to launch."

According to Gear Patrol's source, "there’s just no market" for a two-door Bronco. Gear Patrol did confirm that the Bronco will have a 500mm wading depth, but its source said that a "Raptor" version is "not even in the works yet." The Bronco will reportedly also get a 325-hp, 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6—the same unit used in the Fusion Sport and the 2018 F-150—and a hybrid version is a possibility too. Starting price for the Bronco should be around $30,000, per Gear Patrol's source.

These are all exciting details, but the source also expressed frustration with the Bronco's development. Apparently, Ford is having trouble settling on a design.

"They just commissioned another design study, because they feel it looks too much like a Wrangler," Gear Patrol's source said. "If you’re familiar with the [Ford] Troller, out of Brazil, that’s the basic concept, but it’ll look like a four-door version of that."

Where the Ford GT was designed mostly in secret by a small, cohesive team, the opposite is reportedly true for the Bronco. Gear Patrol's source says too many parts of the company are weighing in on the Bronco and Ford is "missing the point" of what it should be. Regardless, the Bronco is still on target to reach the market for the 2020 model year, but clearly Ford has a lot of work to do between now and then.

A grain of salt is necessary, since none of these details are confirmed yet. A Ford spokesperson simply told us that "we'll have more details closer to launch." As ever, you can catch up on everything we know about the Bronco right here.

The Troller is ugly; looks like some cheap remote control generic car a kid buys at the Dollar Store!

    The rendering is not ugly.

I can't say I'm pleased by this leak . . . a little bit of doom and gloom settling in again re: the 6th gen.

I reject your reality! WHY can't the Bronco compete with the Tahoe XL or Suburban XL. Larger (tougher) frame and maybe even a Power Stroke (I get all tingly thinking about that) . Larger footprint so four or more actual adults could fit inside comfortably. Maybe I just need to push for them to bring back the Excursion. My own personal one man social movement. Can a brother just get a power stroke and a 1 ton frame in a SUV?!. Dammit Man!

Also just realized, 500mm wading depth is not that high? The Ranger has more im pretty sure. That and the rock crawling statement has me worried about capabilities stock.

Please give me the torque of a diesal or v8 four crawling and trails I would rather have torque than hp I will take 2 door base model in yellow I do not need a vehicle to tell me where I am at I can find my own way thank you. Ford you should take some hints from the g6 forum maybe they should have a bronco dream survey an see what people want. You think they would want to build what we want instead they will build what they think will sell and hope we buy it. NO ECOPOOP I WILL NOT BUY IT

Yeah man, you totally need an Excursion, maybe not a Bronco, I do love me some Excursions too! :) Even the FSBs were half-tons and they dwarfed the 1st gens. 78-79 based off F100 chassis and 80-96 based off F150.

I'm actually more of a FSB guy myself, I had 2 5th gens and one 3 gen (bull nose<but just for parts>) and a 76 (1st gen ) for a short amount of time. The EB was just too small for me.

Now from what they first told us, the new global ranger will be similar in size to a 92-96 F150, obviously the 5th gen Bronco was based off that chassis. So if the 6th gen is based off the global ranger then it should be comparable in size to a 5th gen Bronco . . .at least that's how I'm computing it.

Google 2 door Excursion conversion, you may have found your new dream vehicle!!! There's a pic of one in the honorable mentions in the Bronco timeline on here as well.

Should create a petition on how true new bronco should be made. They will miss a great opportunity if they go with this troller. Jeep will destroy it.

What irks me the most "Doug" is that the purported 3rd redesign is due to it looking too much like a Wrangler but yet we want it to look like a Troller, which is essence looks like a bad clone of a Heep?

Speaking of which, look!!!!!!! Our daily Troller sighting . . ..

Like I said they have a great opportunity to make this truck a very unique yet retro style bronco. I can't see how Ford cannot look at these posts and see the renditions of what the people really want. If they build it like a troller,The wrangler will kill it.

    sigh..

I remember reading not too long ago about how Iacocca pitched mini-vans to Ford before he left to go to Chrysler. Another time Ford knew best about what would sell and what wouldn't.
