There's plenty of high mileage Fords out there too. I had a 1st gen explorer with 325k when I sold it and my V10 Super Duty has 270k. Then there's that Fiesta with 3/4 million that had an article written about it.
You know it! Which is why I'm staying mild as well. I was able to buy a Bronco 2 and build D60/10.5 with gears and e-lockers for about the price of just a 74Weld rack. Obviously there's a bit more to go but it's going to be a lot stouter than my 6G and if/when it does break it goes on the...
It's been long understood that 35s were the safe limit for a D44, 37s if you're not throttle happy, but in recent years 37-40s on stock axles have just exploded in popularity and I've pondered how the metric D44 can be so much better to take over the job of 1 tons. Turns out it maybe it hasn't.
Blackrose falls again.
Around 50 this morning and I did hear a little scraping in 1st. Oh well, it survived the trip to Moab, not too worried any more and can ride it out longer.
Worst case if you don't get anywhere with Ford, a true offroad shop can fix it for you. They'll bend the tube back with heat.
You can get 6 lug hubs for a full float 60, but I imagine they are 106mm center bore, not to mention more money.
For sure, but it would be nice to find a root cause...
Yep, it's even a DIY job for a moderately equipped home shop. I haven't seen a ready to go truss for the Bronco yet but they can be fabbed easily enough.
Need to start yapping at Barnes to make one, they have a few Bronco parts already and their prices are great.
Square it up and weld it up. If you haven't broken yet but know you play hard, it's going to be easier to weld it before it breaks and skip the squaring part.
Until you start seeing broken R&P or shafts I don't see a reason to lose ground clearance with a D60.
It's just fantastic that even a reputable big name company like Dana can't supply quality components, Ford gets the black eye for it, and people get to talk smack to us about our rides.
Does anyone that keeps tabs on Jeep circles know of an uptick in broken plug welds? It's the same rear end...
Ford needs to warranty that, but if there's any silver lining here it's that 2dr hard tops have almost zero value and in the absolute worst case scenario you could find a cheap replacement down the line. Mine has been sitting in a shed for all but it's first 3 months with me. If it had 4dr hard...
If it's shaking it's a 2.3 and if it's clattering it's a 2.7 😁
But seriously, the VIN will tell you. The 8th digit is the identifier. H for the 2.3 and P for the 2.7 I think...
