As we now have an excellent set of pictures of the harness and lamps from the Stig, I wanted to post a little info on the process as found by folks on the Ranger forums with their conversion. This is the closest information we have to what Bronco will require at this time.

Overall parts cost will be approximately $5,200 assuming you can re-use all wiring, hardware and your time is worth nothing.

Head light swap for Ranger:
  • This is a straight plug & play swap, no wiring required!
  • MSRP for each headlight is $1,600 (assuming no core swap)
  • Please note that for Ranger the grills are identical between signature and base lamps. I do not know if there are grill differences for Bronco, I'm assuming not as they heavily advertised that there would be many grills to choose from and they are single-piece replacements.
Tail light swap for Ranger:
  • Price for Ranger is $975 eachfor BLIS equipped tail lights. This includes the BLIS sensor and controller, so expect Bronco part to be cheaper individually, but about the same price overall.
  • First you must understand that the Signature (LED) tail lights for Ranger & Bronco contain the BLIS sensors. You will NOT gain BLIS simply by adding Signature tail lights with the sensors. It is also not known if they will function properly as tail lights.
    • You will have dashboard warning lights if you convert from signature to base tail lights.
    • On Ranger, the canon plug for tail lights between base and Signature lights is completely different, so you must require heavily from the ECU back.
    • It appears the BLIS controller for Bronco is mounted below the taillight and operates on it's own canon plug, there will be less, but not unsubstantial wiring from the ECU to the BLIS control box.
  • BLIS must also be enabled with FORSCAN, even if you have the lamps, BLIS control box, sensors and wired everything in, it won't work without FORSCAN
    • FORSCAN can be had for less than $300, depending on what you buy and what hardware you need to connect it.
  • There is currently nobody who has successfully swapped from base to Signature tail lights on Ranger. Personally I do not anticipate anybody doing so for Bronco either as parts are prohibitively expensive and tail lights often take a beating in certain types of off road driving.
  • Ford Bronco Analysis: swap headlights and tail lights from Base to Signature, possible process? 1612229220527
  • Price for NON-BLIS tail lights are $275 each.

You have shattered my dreams. Guess I’ll be sticking with the Standard lights.

Edit: Thank you for the large quantity of info though.

The cousins at NAL said the big difference between the two are pin configuration and control units are different! Might be why no one on ranger has been successful!!

A few people have tried by getting lamps of wrecked Rangers that suddenly "lost" a tail light. Nobody has gotten them to work.

The BLIS control box, wiring and FORSCAN are very prohibitive for the average DIY. If you have the cash flow to do that modification then you probably have the means to simply order the higher trim level vehicle to begin with!

It’s worth pointing out that current information makes it appear that BLIS is *not* in the taillights of the Bronco... which if true, would at least remove that complication and expense from the equation.

No indication on the tail lamps, and these modules are on both side of the Bronco behind plastic on the rear. They have a harness going to them.... might be the BLIS sensors.

Unknown, we know the BLIS controller is down there, and it makes sense to divorce the systems. If they were divorced, i'm guessing there was some insurance company pressure as replacement parts costs are a concern for OEM's.

There are two missing pins between the two harnesses shown on the thread linked in the OP, what they go to is anybody's guess.

Also note that the BLIS logo on the Ranger tails is incredibly difficult to see. We have not had high res close ups of the tail light sides to know if they have a logo on them or not. Notice the very small icon in red on the red part of the tail light. The BLIS sensor is also behind that from what I have seen (could not easily find a pic to confirm at the time of this posting)

Edit: I'll also point out that a BLIS sensor will have reduced efficiency and range if placed behind a metal panel. Mounting the sensor in a tail light makes a lot of sense if that is indeed the case (I am not an engineer nor do I know what research Ford has done regarding their sensors array)

Good eye, I hadn't noticed that before.

I know what you mean about the LED lights. The super duty tail lights with BLIS are about $1k each and the LED headlights are about $1500 each without the ballasts which are another few hundred dollars. Plus all the labor and programming. Like you said, probably over $6k to switch from halogen to LED if you can even get it to work.

For those that wish to change/upgrade from standard lighting, you will probably have better luck aftermarket if someone comes up with a quality solution.

Well there goes that plan.
Please understand that there are just as many Bronco people wanting to swap lights to signature as there were Ranger (scaled by number of reservations). There were more than a few posts/comments on Ranger5G before the vehicle launched of people wondering what trim level came with what and how they could modify their vehicles. Bronco6G is no different, except there is more information out there at our fingertips! Truly we should be ecstatic with how much info Ford has put out there for us all before launch, it's vastly more than they made available for Ranger!

I'm making this thread to inform you all that the cost will be significantly more expensive than 99.9% of you were hoping for.

And if the signature lights were a must-have item, then you are vastly better served by stumping up the extra money on trim level to purchase what will get you into the lights. (y)

I’ve been telling people this for months. Don’t buy a car expecting to upgrade things you’re not even sure you can upgrade.

What about swapping down from "Signature" to base lights? Same challenges?
I would encourage you to find a base person wanting the upgrade and do a hardware swap, plus whatever cash you agree to.

As covered in the taillight bullet points in the OP, you'll have BLIS warning lights on the dash until you use FORSCAN to disable BLIS. However, everything in the above is based on Ranger, so as always, YMMV.
