Hey, Oxford White 2013 Focus ST here. Around the ST forums its been well documented that the paint on our Focus' are so thin and very prone to rock chips no matter the colour. Hopefully Ford takes the off-roading aspect into consideration and addsa decently thick and protected layer of paint!

Scratches are par for the course with this one. We use nail polish to seal up paint scuffs on my husband’s Ranger. It’s a truck, just can’t worry too much about it.

Sorry about your shitty experience with Race Red. I haven’t found it any more delicate than other paints and haven’t experienced any issues. I sent a black spoiler to be painted and it was a spot on match.

A really well used SUV wears its battle scars with pride.

How is the white holding up? Oxford White is currently my leading candidate for my Bronco.

Could it just be today's paint just sucks? When I bought my magma red F150 in Dec '17, the dealer tried selling me add ons and one thing he mentioned was getting the scratch and dent coverage because today's water based paints aren't very durable. I turned him down and haven't had any problems with the paint, but maybe he was being honest about the water based paint being crap.

There's shops that offer a film to stick on top of the paint, specially over the front parts. Think of it as a transparent UV wrap.

Clear nail polish is actually a really good idea, since the only real purpose is to keep the crack from propagating, and seal it up in case the base metal was exposed.

I understand the bulk of the bodywork on the Bronco is aluminum, similar to my old Land Rover Discovery. In that case, I'm not nearly as worried about corrosion of the base metal as I was with my Focus (and every other car I've owned).

Paint on every manufacturer is easy to chip and scratch these days.

I can fart the clear coat off my wife's new Nissan.
Paint on my wife's '17 VW Alltrack and and my '20 Nissan Versa has held up really well compared to what the rate of wear was on my old Focus. I've had old Fords (1989, 1992, 1997) and the main issue was clearcoat baking off the roof and the paint oxidizing to a matte finish, but never really any flaking. I hope that was just a Focus issue and they've found some ways to improve, at least for their pricier vehicles, since then. It's a little more forgivable to have cheap paint on an economy car IMO.

I have a 2016 Ford Mustang Convertible in Race Red and also two black decal racing stripes.
I drive it year round in Michigan and it gets hit with salt, snow, ice, etc.
So far, I don't see any issues with it at all.

Thanks for the info but it doesn't turn me off the Race Red.

Red paint is notoriously hard to match.

Road rash is cool. Adds patina. ;)
