That’s the 4pin option. It doesn’t work with trailer breaks. You need the 7 pin which at this point is only available from the factory, or you need to go aftermarket.
From the description, I thought it would. Perhaps not...

Is it possible to wire it up to aux switches for power supply?

I am not sure why you'd need that, but sure you could do that.
well, just thought it maybe easier then running a wire all the up to the battery

Ah I see. I'm pretty sure the leads for the upfitter switches are under the hood?

I'm more of a Blanton's guy myself, but yes. I'm happy with the result!
I miss Blanton's ☹. Haven't been able to find it in over a year. Even if I did, just can't pay what they are asking. I remember when it was $44 a bottle at Total Wine.

Nice work, I plan to do the same.

That said I would’ve agreed with your comment regarding a 7 pin and 3,500 until I did some research and found out a lot more small, light travel trailers and tear drop trailers than I expected do have electronic brakes. It really surprised me that every little teardrop trailer I looked at had electronic brakes even though the ones I looked at weigh less than 2,000 pounds. Anyone considering deleting factory tow should make sure they understand their needs.
Is the main difference between 4-pin and 7-pin the trailer brakes? I have never towed before, and don't think I will need options for brakes. The only towing Imagine I would be doing is maybe a rental trailer to move landscaping or home improvement materials. Since I would be giving up my truck.

Do you think I should skip tow package? Would there be an aftermarket solution or the ability to add with Ford later down the road if needed?

Thank you.

I think the difference is brake control for a trailer with electronic brakes, a reverse light (which also releases surge brakes so you can back up) and the last one I think is a power wire but I’m not sure about that. A quick Google search should confirm.

All, or most, U Haul trailers have four pin connectors. I took trailer tow off of mine and will add a hitch and a four pin after I take delivery.

Question:

What is difference between a 4 pin and 7 pin trailer connector?
asked by: Carl Z
Expert Reply:
A 4-Way trailer connector has the basic lighting functions only; running lights, left turn signal and brake lights, right turn signal and brake lights, and ground.

A 7-Way has these functions and a 12 volt circuit, a circuit for electric trailer brakes (requires a brake controller in the vehicle), and a reverse light or auxiliary power circuit.

Edit. I Googled it:

There are other types of connectors as well. I have included a link to our help article that shows and explains the various connector types.

Hello, I thought I'd share my tow package build. I have not looked for a similar post so apologies if it's a repeat. But here is my self made Tow package. I removed the factory tow package to hopefully get built quicker, and it worked. Here is my parts list, and a quick install review:

Parts:

1. Curt wiring kit p/n: 56468 - $79.82 (etrailer.com)

2. Curt Receiver Hitch: 13493 - $104.31 (toysfortrucks.com)

3. Wiring Connector: Road Tough - $16.89 (Amazon)
https://www.amazon.com/Road-Tough-WeatherLock-Heavy-Duty-Electrical/dp/B07Z6RZCVF/ref=sr_1_3?crid=34DACUWWR9KJW&keywords=road+tough+trailer+connector&qid=1643995979&sprefix=road+tough+trailer+connector,aps,114&sr=8-3

Total: $201.02
Savings over Stock: -$393.98

Hitch install, easiest I've ever done. Seriously. It took less than 15 minutes.

Wiring, was relatively easy other than the Wire running to the battery. Had to get creative on that one.

Total install time: 2(ish) hours.

Conclusion: I got my Bronco early, and saved $400. Totally worth it.
