We had some beautiful weather today.

I was determined to figure out something simple and affordable for removing the hardtop rear cap on my 2 door Bronco….

I also wanted to be able to do this solo.

I found inspiration/copied the concept from this video. For my 2 door, the ceiling measurements I used: 68 X 48 inches

I used the mounting bracket for the front straps.

I know this is not intended for long term storage. I plan on using this for a single day like today. The longest my hardtop would be hanging like this would be for 3 days max.

Obligatory, I assume your ceiling hooks are anchored into joists/rafters/trusses?

Looks good. I had a similar set-up for my 4-door Jeep and would leave it hanging there for weeks. Only difference is I used one long strap for the front and one long strap for the back. That way, after the topped was hooked, I was raising and lowering from one side. Would just crank it up a bit and then pull the strap to equal the lift on both sides.

I have been thinking of the same thing. Looks good. Where exactly did you hook the front? any pics?
The rear cap is secured at the top of the Bronco with 2 bolts you have to remove before taking it off. I just hooked into the mounting bracket where the bolt goes. Look for a Bronco hardtop removal video on Youtube and you will see what I'm talking about.

Yes, all 4 screw eyes are connected to trusses above. I used a stud finder to approximately locate the center.

I think you posted a photo of your setup in another thread and is what got the ball rolling for this.

I jumped on this setup because all the weight is distributed to 4 points. Slightly lifting each corner, hooking and then tightening up the cam buckle on each corner was an absolute breeze. I was kinda shocked/proud of myself when I got the top off yesterday. The guide pins make reinstalling a cinch too, I just worked it down slowly on all 4 corners lining up the pins. Also, fairly minimal scars on my smooth ceiling/finished garage if I ever need to remove the screw eyes and patch up.

Removing/reinstalling the bolts is what takes forever when using the provided tools. I went ahead and ordered a cordless ratchet on Amazon to take care of that.

Knowing I can do this on whim and by myself will allow me to enjoy the Bronco that much more.

The tools needed are provided. I've just been looking for an excuse for awhile now to buy a cordless ratchet wrench. This was the perfect justification. ;)

I currently have a JKU wrangler. I have a toplift pro lift and absolutely love it. I dont have enough clearance in my garage for an overhead lift. The lift will also work with 4dr broncos but unfortunately it doesnt on a 2dr but they say theyre working on something. Its a bit pricey but if you dont have the ability to do something else its worth it.

What about the Harken Hoist? Has anyone tried that? Seems a lot more challenging to install vs. this solution.

Any worries about the load on those front mounting plates? Everyone else seems to be using straps under the top but I'm not a fan of the way they rub on the top seals. Your mounting point are much better but I wouldn't want to pull that front metal bracket out of the hardtop.

@67BroncoG1

The bracket is heady duty and thick. I think it will be okay. All the weight is distributed to 4 points. Roughly 20 lbs each, but the majority of the weight is in the back.

I went ahead and made a wood support for the back. Since I bought a new to me daily, the Bronco is now officially a toy. I plan on keeping the Bronco in the garage with the top and doors off until early Fall at least. If it’s a nice day, she’s ready to go!

🤠
