How about analog gauges and mechanical parking brakes? Thatā€™s gotta save some chips. A lot of this ā€œsafety stuffā€ is not needed either. Itā€™s just there to dumb down the driving experience and appease insurance companies and bored bureaucrats.
the latter, maybe; the former - doubtful; everything is electronic stepper motors driven by digital signals these days.

I dont really like the direction this is taking. I know people want their Broncos, but receiving them "incomplete" shouldn't be ok.
I agree to an extent. Living in Florida, Iā€™m not taking my bronco without air conditioning, Iā€™d take it without heated seats though.

itā€™s really just the mentality of ā€œI want it when I want it, however that has to happen.ā€ Itā€™s unfortunate that itā€™s come to this. It makes me wonder if ford will give any credits or anything since people are getting ā€œincompleteā€ builds.

Jesus Christ Ford, I will take a new Bronco with ZERO fucking airbag, blindspot, and collision avoidance chip BS right fucking now.

If you absolutely INSIST, I will allow a single steering wheel airbag chip.

It's the quality precedent that is being set with this that I'm worried about. Is this going to turn into the norm? I am really hoping it's not.

Jesus H. Christ. When this article dropped, I couldnā€™t even imagine there would be a downside to getting your vehicle scheduled and built or off ice mountain, even if it lacked heated seats or some other creature comfort or nanny aide wasnā€™t available for a while. But, apparently I have underestimated the cynicism and insatiable appetite for bitching and complaining with this group.
I would sayā€¦.if your seat warmer doesnā€™t work and itā€™s twenty below in April or May, then park it in the garage until it warms up for f**k sakes. If the radio donā€™t work, get out your iPhone and earbuds, or an effing boom box, etc., etc. I swearā€¦..itā€™s no wonder Ford is always effing with usā€¦ā€¦weā€™re a miserable, whiny lot that can never be satisfied.

I think the devil is in the details. Does anyone know what is defined as " non-safety critical features" ? There has to be language defining what EXACTLY that is. I mean interpretation is a slippery slope and I can't believe there isn't any specifics of what is determined as "critical". Likely more news will come out in the coming days as this gets fleshed out a bit more, for now, I can assume that systems such as airbags, seatbelts, maybe BLIS, forward collision systems, cameras, etc are "critical", but who knows for now.

Well said. I'm seriously perplexed by many of the responses here. Like you, I don't see a downside to this. GM has already been doing this; wish Ford would have adopted this strategy long ago.

Within one year? Are you fucking kidding me? Ford must really be deprioritizing Bronco. I know we all want our vehicles, but in my optics this is a horrible idea.

Having my Bronco sit on ice mountain for 60 days gives me a different perspective. Plenty of people in my build week would happily take this trade when the alternative is 3 more months of lot rot.

If weā€™re truly talking about something like heated seats, then ship my damn Bronco and install it later at the dealership.

Forget the chips. The ones they installed don't work anyway.

From my Ford Pass app:

It appears our Broncos would either sit at ice mountain for up to a year or not be built at all while waiting on some creature comfort nanny module. Would it not be better to have it spend that year in your garage. I mean, say it is waiting on something silly like an auto start/stop module that literally no one wants anyways, or a heated steering wheel module? Are these things that would prevent someone from driving it? And If so, wouldnā€™t it be batter to have it in your own driveway or garage until the chip shows up?

I hear you, I do and I understand your reply. However weā€™re making assumptions here as we donā€™t know what shortcuts Ford is considering and the long term impacts on performance & reliability. My warning is directed more at Fordā€™s lack of dedication to the brand and the fact that consumers are paying for an incomplete item. If Ford is delivering partial vehicles then letā€™s provide them with partial payment, with no additional fees when the missing chips arrive. Also, within a year? Thatā€™s an long time boys and girls, with ZERO faith Ford can keep theyā€™re word on time. Weā€™re also assuming that everything will function within necessary requirements. Allowing Ford to further slip down the maybe / sorta / kinda / partial realm of delivered aka final product is concerning and a bad trend for consumers. Bronco is only a small part of Fordā€™s world. I see this as a bad sign.
