Can’t stand cords hanging. Took a bout a week but figured out a clean install. This was for a k40 install but they have the parts for many detectors available on the Amazon.

This install takes 10-15 minutes, requires no disassembly.

First step is to acquire the 3 parts that are listed. Wire tap with small pin adapter, detector bracket with threaded ball ends, tesa tape, because you’re a man.

First remove the end of the bracket off of the threaded ball. Nut is 7/16.

Drill a 3/16 hole into the passenger visor mount. Then screw the stud into just before the nut touches. Then use the 7/16 to tighten the nut. Firm is good. Don’t go all super man on it. I’m old so I just put mine in the drill chuck to start it.

Use a Allen wrench to tighten the mount wing nuts into the proper position

Unplug the harness from the back of the mirror. It has 3 wires. White, black and blue, green. We will be inserting the small pins into the black for ground and the white for power. This is a switched 12v off the ignition. You may have to use a set of pliers to force seat them all the way.

Use your “man tape” to wrap what’s not black.

Thats it’s.

Tesa tape

Detector mount must be this style with the threaded ball joints on the end. Just grab the appropriate one for your brand detector.

wire tap comes with the smaller pin adapter which you will be using. Grab the appropriate power end for your model.

I purchased this USB adapter for my Radenso DS1, also a clean way to do it and steps down to 5v for a USB detector.

I’m looking for the clean way to mount the detector. Mine has a 1/4-20 mount on top, so I can probably use your idea for tapping a Ram ball mount to the visor mount and a ball on the detector.
Nice! That plastic was pretty thick and mounted good. Detector is real stable compared to the suction mount. Took me about 30 minutes running down options for mount locations. Plus it has some depth behind it.

Didn't think you'd need a radar detector in a Bronco but I guess it's a good insurance
More of a reminder than for speed. So many distractions now a days. Plus race red kinda sticks out.

Had one back in the 80s. Didn't realize they were still a thing.
Looks good.

Radar based municipal revenue collection is still a thing, so radar detectors are still relevant. I run one more as a speed reminder, if it beeps I verify my speed is appropriate or I adjust. Where I live the small town cops sit in dark parking lots and radar. The speed limit on my way to work goes from 45 to 40 to 35 to 45 to 25 to 20 to 45 to 30, that is all on just one road. Lots of opportunities for revenue.

Around here you have to be going quite a bit over the speed limit to get pulled over. I regularly meet several cops each day going and coming to work doing 60-65mph in a 55 and we just wave at each other. One of these days I'm sure I'll get pulled over, and the first question will be why today?

Last speeding ticket was probably at least 15 years ago, maybe longer. I really didn't know people still had radar detectors. We all had them in the 80s. Seems like such a long time ago...

I figure Radenso will have their Theia radar detector out before I get my Bronco. :(

We go into Virginia a lot. I‘m going to need my Uniden R7 mounted up high.

I’ve thought about laser jammers too. But, if I go with a winch and lights. It may not be the best setup. We really don’t have any hard to jam guns in NC. So, it may not be an issue.

No I don‘t care if you don’t speed. Just stay in the right lane and let the other traffic pass. It always seems stupid when you see jeeps and larger jacked up trucks riding the left lane blocking traffic.

That would be a waste of money since I drive like a grandpa with his grand kids in it, but it’s just my dog 🤣

Now, I may need that in my Lightning that should be made next week. 🧐

I’m surprised they even sell these still. Don’t most departments have laser that’s pretty much undetectable until it’s too late? Sorry haven’t had a detector in more than 20 years..
I’ve had one laser hit from a highway patrol officer since I moved to MA, last week on 495. With laser you usually get notification on the detector that you are about to be pulled over, there really isn’t any warning. Most highway and local police here use Ka which is easily detectable if they just leave it on. If they are “gunning” individual cars there may be no warning. The biggest pain about radar detectors these days are the vehicle collision warning systems that emit radar. The Radenso DS1 is pretty good when it comes to that, my old Escort 9500xi became completely unusable.

I also run Waze to keep an eye on traffic and cops. I’m thankful for wireless CarPlay so Waze is automatic when I get in the truck.

Radar detectors are the most useless item to put in a vehicle. If you pay attention and drive reasonably, you’ll see cops running radar long before they can pick you out of a crowd for speeding. Use the space for a dash cam instead.
LOL this statement is so NOT true. Do your homework.

A good radar detector can detect active radar up to 5 miles away, but the cop needs to be pretty close to you. And fyi they can pick you out of a crowd, and they are very good at hiding lol.

Get an Escort directional Max 360 and you’ll even know when you’ve passed the trap where you never saw the cop. Happens all the time. A dash cam won’t do squat to keep you from getting speeding tickets.

I have them in all my cars and trucks, and they save my bacon all the time. Even with an instant detection attempt pointed at you, you can often slow down fast enough before the cop can get a reading. Unfortunately in that case they’ll claim they’re trained to estimate speed accurately. Laser is a different thing, but they are not used as much because you can beat them in court.
