I think you would be surprised no mm issusend surprised at how well 4vdr badlands performs towing max weight thru mountains. Driving thru right now and have to b slow down for rest of group climbing hills. 8.1 mpg avg so far this trip towing max load. Yes ibid put on scale. I did drop thecwaterbfrom tanks to get weight down and it drives very stable non-issue. Drove across Oklahoma MN a with high crosswinds.

That’s insane! What were you towing? This is exactly why I’m posting, trying to hear some real world experiences before I dump 20k+ into a trailer. Thanks.

Final update on trip pulling the travel trailer. here are the details on my Bronco and mods

2021 4dr badlands NON sasquatch
2.3L 4cyl auto
35x12.5x17 Radar Renegade tires
Stock no Lift
JCR front winch mount and guard w/camera relocation

My over all thoughts: The Bronco handling pulling the trailer was impressive. We traveled for two weeks dealing with sand storms high crosswinds (40 mph) and was very stable. Our trip consisted of traveling from MO thru OK, TX into NM and up to Flagstaff for overland Expo then to Grand Canyon before heading into mountains thru Wolf Creel Pass(10,000 ft plus) and Durango before heading across Kansas to go home. The theme for the whole trip was the wind. We either dealt with heavy crosswinds or headwinds but the bronco was very stable and plenty of power. I will post picture below of the trip showing the avg. MPG from time left house to return. We seemed to average between 7.5 with heavy headwinds to best of 10 pulling across flat Kansas with some crosswinds.
will also repost the weight ticket for the trailer and Bronco loaded which I am sure some will say negative comments as it is a heavy load. I will say after this trip my impression is the other vehicle on this trip rated for more was scary and the Bronco was very solid(suspect due to wide track).

This trip makes me do some testing to see if can pull Ember 17FB???

You're already pushing it. A dry 4,200lb 21ft trailer in a 2.3l Bronco is straight irresponsible
thanks for your input

Looks cool. Did you reinforce the trailer bumper?
No just added some hitch mounts to secure rack for generator and fuel

The present rated towing capacity of 3,500 lbs (yes, it may go higher for certain model/options) narrows the choices for a top-quality, overlanding camping trailer. There may be ideal, but not inexpensive products coming into market just in time, well suited for the BRONCO.

Have my eye on the OPUS Lite (https://www.opuscamper.us/lite/) arriving in September with a rugged chassis, independent suspension and articulated hitch.

The specs seem custom-tailored to the BRONCO:
  • Dry Weight: 2,380lbs
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating: 3,527lbs

Anyone have any experience with Happier Camper?
Their HC1 Studio and Traveler trailers look perfect for a weekend trailer behind the Bronco.

Up and down mountain passes here in Colorado (trailer weighs 2800 lb dry), and managed 13 mpg on the way to camp and a whopping 15 mpg on the way home. It was more down than up on the way home but followed a semi and stayed closer to 60 mph.

On a previous trip up and over the mountains out to Moab, got 10.5 mpg as I was pushing the speed and not drafting any semis. A ~200 mile range didn't have me thrilled but with 15 mpg getting to 300 mile range makes me pretty happy.

I purchased a motorcycle camping trailer a few years ago. It was made in Canada. I'm thinking of hooking it up to the Bronco when I attend the Off-Rodeo in Texas.
