Went to the dunes and this thing rips. Black diamond.
2.3 manual 2dr got 24.7 mpg to and from.
10 mpg in the dunes lol.
I put her in “baja” mode.
Basically sport mode and then 4 h turn off traction turn on rear locker. BD Tires are really good in the sand too.
Won’t get stuck I took her up some crazy stuff and was having a heart attack but she never skipped a beat. Stick is almost required in the dunes because its all about momentum and wheel spin and throttle control. Pic shows the whip mount. Suction cup to the window.

How is the suction cup enough to keep the whip and flag on in the wind? Going there in June with Badlands factory tires - hopefully no issues with getting stuck.

Has anyone done beach camping with their Bronco yet? I know it gets really windy at Oceano and am thinking through if I need to rent a trailer or if tents will be enough - saw a few videos with tents crashed there in high winds. If anyone also has recommendations on awning set ups that can work with the soft top I'd be interested. Thanks much.

There’s two suction cups and the hold the whip in two places. You should be good in badlands just make sure you lower the tire pressure. Around 20 or so. And if you have an auto make sure you are manually shifting. You want wheelspin and throttle control

Thanks for the rec's. So I need to get an air compressor - or do they have one there that you can use to reinflate?

@bigblueboing Where did you get the whip and flag?
It was 50$ at the banana cabana right there in the beach. And they have a compressor to inflate tires for a dollar per tire. So no worries. Just reinfkste before they close or you have to wait till the am or find a gas station.
banana boy is the guys they got everything.

How do you have Baja in the 2.3 manual? Or are you saying put it in sport mode then lock the diff and put her in 4h?

Eh just throw it in sand mode on the automatic it does fine. I lowered to 15psi on my stock badlands wheels. No problems at all at silver lake sand dunes.

For those of us who haven't been or driven on sand yet, what is the best approach to trip planning? Any good websites that lay out all the details? I am wondering if it is worth getting a guide or being with some kind of group for newbies and their rigs? Seems like a lot of folks just show up, lower the tire pressure and drive around. Cheers!
