Just booked for me and my son for Sept, the resort hotel they partner with is nice but silly expensive and I don't care about resorts stuff, so seems a waste of money. Haven't been to Vegas in some 20 years and that was for a concert so I stayed at the Hard Rock next to the venue, I think something closer to the off roadeo would be more practical. I don't gamble plus my son is only 19, so casinos etc are out anyways. I'd be happy with a decent hotel or motel that doesn't smell like stale smoke and doesn't have carpet you only want to walk on with shoes, LOL.
Something in the Best Western category that's a short drive to the Roadeo site would be best. Where might some of you have stayed?

Also, can you get to the Roadeo site with any rental car? I won't be driving my own Bronco down for a weekend, so will be renting what ever Hertz has in mid size vehicles I think.

Thanks for any tips!

We stayed on the strip when we went in November. There are plenty of of non-casino hotel options in and around Vegas to choose from. Any rental will easily get you there and back. Forget the rideshares as they might get you there but they won't come back for you.

Whenever I go to vegas with the kids, I stay at Red Rock Resort. They have a movie theater, bowling alley, arcade, multiple swimming pools, downtown Summerlin shopping is right across the street, and normal non-touristy everyday stores are all up and down the street. Red Rock canyon is just a couple miles up the road, for sightseeing. If you just want a normal hotel, then I think there is a Hampton Inn and similar around Red Rock Resort, and off the 15, south of the strip, if you don't want to go all the way up to Red Rock.

thanks, that's good to know, especially about the ride shares!

great, thanks! We won't have any time to enjoy the resort stuff, flying in Fri night and out Sun, so paying $850 for all the things we can't use just makes little sense. I'll check for the Hampton Inn, thanks. I just don't know Vegas at all and don't want to end up in some sketchy run down area with nothing but fast food options around, LOL

Try looking in Enterprise, NV. It’s located SW of Vegas and the 160 will take you to Mt. Potosi. Pretty much as residential neighborhood and box store shopping area.

interesting idea, thanks! I don't mind spending money, but that resort they partner with makes no sense, since we'd not be able to use any of it's offerings.

Looking at the location, I’d say you have positive and negatives no matter what you do. Staying close to the location is fine, but ultimately that doesn’t do much for you if you are flying out of Vegas anyway. If you are, I’d stay there and rent a car for the trip back and forth. Many strip hotels have drop offs at their location, so you can see what fits best, or simply just return to the airport. Of note, returning to the airport is offsite, so you have to take a shuttle from that return location back to the airport (they include it), but it adds time.

I go to Vegas frequently and find the strip is one of those places where it doesn’t really matter where you put your head. Most people walk around from place to place and then just crash where they got reservations. I’d say you go to an MGM resort and type in your days you are there. That site gives you the day to day cost at each location. If not there, you save a decent amount staying off strip, but you’ll add back cost to get there if you want to have fun on the strip eventually. Yes, it’s about gambling- but it doesnt have to be. Many people go with families to eat, shop, people watch, and a host of other things for any age. If you Google “top things to do in Vegas”- it won’t give you adult things… much of it is family.

So that’s my long speech. If you have any plans to see the strip beyond the rodeo, I would say the Mirage is the best balance between cost and enjoyment. If you want to go lower, you tend to battle it out with what you might get in a room. For a little more, Aria is awesome, and you may find Park Mgm to be a good option (it’s a smoke free hotel).New York New York is ok, but busy and the rooms are meh. Cost is good. MGM is a favorite for budgets, but tends to be crowded. Luxor is cheap, but you get what you pay for. Cool for a vegas trip- not so much for staying there. Avoid Circus Circus or Excalibur if you don’t want a Smokey room. I avoid even walking through those most times.

That Hampton, on I-15 (SW of Vegas) is pretty nice... and close enough that you should be happy. It's also in one of the better parts of town (Summerlin). I have no idea of the hotel price. GOOD LUCK!

I agree, the Hampton seems like the right selection if you want no frills and something close. I just rented a car at the airport for my Nevada Off Rodeo experience and it worked fine.

I booked mine at the Palms Casino for October. Best bang for your buck IMO. $125/night

We recently stayed at Holiday Inn Las Vegas South. We were in a similar spot, not a lot of time for "Vegas" stuff and it was a clean bed at a reasonable price. Easy access to the freeway, etc.

Do head to Evel Pie for some of the best pizza of your life.

Check out the Silverton Hotel on Blue Diamond.
Yep, Silverton was the cheapest & closest when I booked on Orbitz. My Brother also said that Silverton is partnered with some other casino & has a free shuttle to the strip. His truck terminal is across the street so he stays there on occasion. He can sniff out a freebie 100 miles away & walk 1/2 that distance for free parking. :sneaky:
