Depending on your trust level with ford, this really all sounds suspicious.

Ford says to use 7 quarts...

Ford finds out (prob through us) that the dipstick is wrong....

Someone at Ford takes action, finds a dipstick that measures 7 qts correctly(-ish) as an immediate fix...

Someone with more power and has access to bean counters and lawyers undoes said fix and a decision is made to just change electronic files to match physical dipsticks.

I agree with ^^ the only way this is going to get resolved is if someone gets an F150 and Bronco oil pan, pours 6 quarts and see how they compare.

...there is one flaw with that...is the oil level in a pan higher than the block seal? (Meaning would either pan actually hold 6 quarts "unattached" from the block?

Ford already found 2 dipstick PNs that match 7 quarts that briefly lived in the database (and one still is listed for the Raptor)...but they went so far as to create/find and load another (6 quart C stick) into the catalog (it is now listed as the only stick for the Bronco 2.7s). If bean counters did get involved and this was a cost thing, whether they would have been required to send us all 7 quart sticks (to match the initial 7 quart capacity) or send us the new C stick (for the 6 quart capacity) would cost the same amount. The cheapest thing for them to have done is just change the electronic files and tell everyone to stick with the OEM stick...but for some reason they went ahead and not only changed the capacity to 6, but also changed from a stick that already accurately measures 6 to another stick that replaces that stick (that coincidentally also measures 6). I guess either way they make money because it doesn't appear as though they are sending any of us new sticks...so if we want one we'll have to buy one...not a huge profit but Ford is making money on our confusion.

I don’t think Ford has any intention of sending out replacement sticks. The new C stick measures the same as the original stick. I think it was just a minor design change going forward that only makes it easier to read the stick. The only reason they would send out new sticks is if the twist in the old stick being too low is causing a problem with oil flow somehow. And if that’s the case then we have a whole other can of worms to open.

I believe @flip has stated that the oil pan #s differ between the f150 and the Bronco... don't know how they differ but they are....

Just took delivery of my 22 Bronco today. Through FordPass looking at the service schedule... it says "up to 7 quarts" for the oil change.

Thats is their generic one for "gas engines." Note that it also has "inspect automatic transmission level" (IF equipped with dipstick...many are not these days). If you are the H stick, which I believe you may, if you have 6 quarts it will be at the top of the hash marks. 7 would put it halfway up the twist (unless you have the new H stick, in which case 7 would be above the fill line but not up the twist).

Ford put out a SSM on 7/30 stating 6 quarts, so the confusion probably continues and why the dealer is using 6 quarts.

If this is all true, why hasn't there been official notice from Ford that there is an updated dipstick?
Because they don't want to pay for them. It is cheaper and easier (especially if they can't come up with tens of thousands of replacement parts on short notice) to just change the terms of the manual to 6 and pretend that's what it was supposed to be all along even though they continue to put 7 in at the factory.

Yeah...no. They are not paying for new ones even with the 6 quart update (but note that they did update the parts database with a new stick), and that come after they already updated the parts catalog 2x before the new 6 quart stick with 7 quarts sticks...so if the theory holds true that they "didn't want to buy new sticks," then they wouldn't have tried to stick with the initial 7 quart directive (AND add those 7 quarts sticks) and then DROP those "correct" 7 quart sticks only to them go back and add a 6 quart stick (unless, of course, they are that inept...). More likely that yes it does in fact hold 6 quarts for optimum performance. But everyone is free to add all the oil they want, right?

Why are some people even debating this? Ford has contacted dealers and set the issue to rest. Some people are just silly or idiots whichever you prefer.

Don't know of any other way to simplify it...if any other fellow mechanics who regularly wrench in performance/racing/off road vehicles who have actually witnessed what happens when too high of an oil level is run are out there please chime in to try to convince some of the non-believers that more is not always better (or correct). From the tone of some posts on this forum, however, it seems as though there is a lot of "it is 7 because I say it is" versus realizing that that running too high of an oil level does NOT achieve optimum performance. If you prefer a different description other than optimum performance, go with whatever feels right...but for the sake of this thread will the 7 quart crowd please go elsewhere and post all day long about why they are still going to run 7 quarts? Let's please try to stick to facts (at least in this thread). Otherwise can admin (if you are monitoring)please kill this entire thread before new Bronco owners get distracted down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole that is being kept alive by the misinformed?
