If you were to install these reverse/chase lights, how would you go about preventing someone from just walking up and unscrewing them?

PS. No funny responses.

OK, no funny response, you've got easily transportable "things", potentially in a public place, secured by standard common fasteners. The response, then, is you would secure those "things" the same way you'd secure any other similar "things". What's different about those lights bolted on to your spare than any of the other dozens (hundreds?) of "things" secured to that vehicle by standard common fasteners?

I would probably just use Loctite and cross my fingers that the extra bit of effort will make someone give up if they try to steal it. It would be a pain if you ever need that spare tire though.

You need to buy theft deterrent bolts and nuts.
^ this is probably a better idea

Hit up your local hardware store and get some anti-tamper hardware.

Security Hardware is about your only option. 99% of the time the honest people are honest and your shit doesn’t get fucked with. Anyone with nefarious actions, ill intent, a portable Sawsall or grinder will render the security hardware useless anyways.

We can only do so much to protect the stuff we work hard for.

Or park next to a rig with bigger and badder stuff so the thief targets them, not you… 🤷‍♂️

Security hardware will keep incredibly lazy thieves out, but the guys walking around stealing car parts have power tools (grinders, 3-5" cut off wheels etc) and will grind through regular security nuts rather quickly.

This company has a minimum order (I think $100), but their security fasteners are hands down the best I've found. I used them in a previous job (national security) and they stood up to abuse.

American made (right down the street from me at that).

This isn't a retail brand, so expect the headaches that go along with that.. but if you have pricy lights on your vehicle, it may be worth it.

Just switching out the hex head bolts to Torx is going to deter the casual thief. That what I will change to.

Remember when everyone thought their fender flares would get stolen?

People have been mounting lights to the outside of their rigs for decades. I don’t think rampant theft of off-road lights is a problem in most areas.

I'd be more worried about losing the cat these days. Do they make theft deterrent fasteners for catalytic converters?

Change the hex bolts to T-Torx (Tamper Torx). Most folks don't carry TTorx bits around with them.

Or, you could just add a couple spot welds. ;-)
