Are we going to have to pay the full down payment whenever we go to A dealership to place the order or just leave a deposit?
When I order my 2019 raptor I just had to leave a 1g deposit until it arrived and that’s when we took care of the actual down payment.

Pay your down and financing upon delivery, AFTER you have decided you want it.

My dealer, so far, has said they will ask for a $500 REFUNDABLE deposit upon ordering.

A vehicle that is scheduled to arrive so long after ordering is going to get as little as possible to secure the order. My last F150 was 12 weeks and I only paid $200.00. I guess it depends on your dealer, their (perceived) risk, and your relationship with them.

Do not tell them you are putting money down. Save that for after They figure out the financing cause they make money off of financing. If you tell them you are financing a lesser amount they will make that extra money off of you somehow. Or just get financing rates before you go into the dealership so that they know they are competing against other banks and may try to get you something better

My wondering was when we order in December, are we to be made to put any money at our dealer.

Order making time is in December; and what time of the year is in December?

... the gift giving time (for most that celebrate in that way).

So are we to put money down during the Christmas season?

... that would be cutting into money to buy gifts for friends and loved ones.

... I guess one could say "sorry friends", but "yes to family".

Though that still makes less to budget for gifts.

Times may be better when we pick up our Bronco, but now for some or more, that is not the case.

I doubt any credit check is required because dealerships want you to abandon your order because abandoned orders become dealer stock.
(Original post modified)

I should have clarified it more to "Are the credit checks at financing time...".

If you require financing from the dealer then yes they will check your credit.

if you bring your own financing then the dealer will not pull your credit.

btw ... always sit down to negotiate rates with your own financing And ask the dealer if they think they can provide a better rate.

Yep. I plan on bringing my own Credit Union as a backup for financing. If Ford offers better financing (unlikely I think, though my credit union isn't GREAT) then I would ask them to see what they would give me. I've just heard of soft credit pull vs. hard credit pull and was curious of the difference.

If it comes down to giving my dealer money vs having a Christmas the dealer can get bent.

On the other hand... If it comes down to this maybe getting a Bronco isn't a smart idea.

A legitimate dealer will not ask for a deposit. I have ordered 2 raptors and a RS and was not asked to leave a deposit. I even offered and my dealer said no.
I don't think a dealership asking for an additional deposit makes them non-legitimate or shady. With the new penalties that Ford is going to be implementing for Broncos that are not delivered to the original reservation holder, I expect many dealers will now be requiring deposits at time of order as a way to weed out those that are more likely to walk away from the sale.

As far as a down payment, no that should not be required until pick-up/delivery.

I know the timing sucks but if you are not able to swing $500 (or whatever) for a deposit then you probably should not be buying one. Theoretically, the deposit money should be coming out of your down payment kitty (not your Christmas budget). If you have not started on saving for a down payment yet then you probably won't have the money by the time your order comes in, thus increasing your potential to walk from the sale, then the dealer gets penalized. Which goes back to the beginning of my post.
