Do you side with Google or Oracle?

  • Google admits it used over 11,000 lines of code from Oracle's Java.
  • Supreme Court Justices have tried to compare it to everything from typewriters to restaurant menus in order to understand this...holy crap.
  • Justice Kagan has no business commenting on this case...wow.
  • Same code used for the same purposes is not transformative!

Google should just buy Oracle and play their argument on Youtube.

I personally believe that anyone's (individual or corporation) inventions or ideas should be protected under copywrite law. If another corporation or individual wants to incorporate those ideas into their projects, they should have to receive written consent by the original author to use those things. I think most importantly it's about respecting someone else's original ideas as being theirs to begin with and secondly, essentially those who use someone else's ideas in their works are stealing money from the original author. That's not right in any sense of the word.

Fair point.

Google should just buy Oracle and play their argument on Youtube.
That would probably come up against FTC resistance, but I'd watch.

Ford is now up asking the court to review personal injury lawsuits. I didn't know that was next, but a much less interesting case. "I thought cars going 75mph would be 100% safe and they're not! They broke their promise! Boo hoo!"
