Wow. Talk about going above and beyond. Thank you SO much for all the context and condition shots! This is so helpful in a way that no other shots are. I can actually start to get a feel for this color now. Thanks again for the work!

Paint can from the event and the closest I was able to capture it looking like it does to my eye. My other shots appear to have colorization that is not what the eye sees. If the can is truly THE color, then it is light colored, freshly laid, concrete. No green ... no blues. Those colors will show up if the paint is reflecting something of those colors around it. I also noticed, the more you zoom in on a color, the more "true" it becomes ... if that helps. But if you're expecting some kind of color from this paint ... then you're in for a disappointment. If concrete, or grout, is your thing ... then you will be very satisfied!

Yes, the reference color is close enough to correct for the perceived color. CG is gray when close to other colors. Put it next to a gray and you'll perceive a blue or green tint.

Just because I cannot leave well enough alone, I bought the touchup paint for Jet Fighter Gray and applied it to test samples today.
In the case of Cactus Gray (CG), there is just not 'well enough' information available.

Long post, sorry. Lots of photos.

The black looks like regular carbon black in the supernatant.; however, there is a blue/green tint in the pellet (polymer) fraction.

One more thing...
Because I'm 'that guy', I've included RL comparison with Sting Gray (Jeep). Yes, I did ask permission to take these photos.

Note on the lighting:
It was about 5pm, cloudy (Delta's fault).

Personal note: I do like this color. It is dynamic and is a "Local Color" paint. It changes color based on your perception and the light/colors around it.
I will keep the samples and revisit the photos on a sunny day in the future.

Nice job! Since I and likely many fellow Texans thought the first time we heard of the color name, immediately thought of the grayish-greenish/blueish cactus (prickly pear) in Big Bend, expecially with the model choices. I have never stopped thinking of this color as what I've seen there in Big Bend, it has been one of my favorite desert colors ever since, so when I heard the name before seeing it, my mind went there, and after pics started coming out, I am sure that is exactly what Ford was going for.

Edit. I meant to say, even in the desert its hard to get the same color on one of them twice, but it is definitely NOT the normal variety of the green color you see in the rest of the Southwest. The link I posted is the closest I could get on google images, and even that is not quite what I've seen since its a plant and varies throughout the year. But again, when I saw it, I knew they had to be replicating it. Especially if as you say, it changes hue in different light, that is really exciting. I can't wait to see it myself and take pictures of it in Big Bend (and yes I'd like a Big Bend model, but no, probably going Black Diamond or Badlands)

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I just sold my stingray rubi and put a deposit on a badlands in area 51. I am changing my mind And going With CG. My question does it look to much like a pastel color. Trying to avoid that Easter egg look. Lol I am an artist and work with Pantone colors.... Just hard to tell until I see it in person.

Thanks for the deep dive. I really appreciate it. This color is maddening. Attached are the computer generated pic, early Bronco prototype, Bronco Sport, and painted body. Sadly my favorite is the computer generated and least favorite is the Sport but in your educated opinion are we looking at the same color when we look at the early prototype, the Sport and the painted body and the discrepancies are all camera, white balance, time of day, reflected vs direct light, parking lot vs trees, shade etc. My tin foil hat tells me there's something different in the paint and something is fishy that this was one of Ford's favorite colors with the prototype Cactus Grey with white top and now it's one of the last couple of colors we haven't seen on a production completed Bronco. Did Ford fall out of love too?

That's exactly what I was hoping for. I kept seeing those minty looking pictures and wanted to puke. I completely crossed this color off my list and was leaning toward antimatter blue until I saw how metallic it was... then I had no idea what to do. Now, based on this saying it only shows green/blue sometimes, I'm 95% back to CG!

Correct ... if you got just the right angle, or depending on where or what you're parked by, you might get that green bluish reflection on it. Otherwise, it's just plain concrete/primer color. Anything CGI seen online ... throw em out the window (Microsoft Window that is).

No. It's gray first. The perception of color changes depending on what other local colors are around or the ambient color. Reds tend to wash out and result in a flat cement gray first. Blue shades tends to darken the color and browns and sandy colors enhance or bring out the green colors. All of these change depending on the lighting. Full sun will likely keep the color closer to the lighter tints.

Yeah, all three are correct. The rendered color is close to what is perceived most of the time. However, what you think is a green is not. It's gray. The shaded photo is overcompensated by the camera and the white top. It's not blue. The third photo is a good example of low light with a red dusk setting. The red ambient light is washing out all the color and is adding a slight (false) tan tint in the photo. IRL, this was likely just a flat gray.
