I'd like to see the repair bills for each of those vehicles used (errr... totaled) in those ads. I know I won't be bidding on any black Defenders on eBay for quite some time.

From what ive read the 2 door is so pricey because it is only coming fairly loaded to start. Like Jeep did with the gladiator.

Defender is loaded with too much tech for me. Especially with the reliability issues they've had the last decade or two. Those commercials show it's fun and capable if you're a millionaire and give zero ****'s. it doesn't do anything for me.

Good looking rig. I built a 4door last week and it was $88k. The $49k base price has steel wheels and lacking the more advanced diffs for comparison so its hard to compare that to a "raptor version" of a bronco that will be better optioned. I do lean towards a lot of luxury options so it could be less than $88k. My guess is a "raptor" bronco will be about $60k loaded up as it's been claimed they want to be in line with jeep (which would be the Rubicon). So the Rover will be nearly $30k more optioned up in my opinion... and I didn't select every option on the rover lol

Also keep in mind that ALL new rovers are unibody now.... And independent suspension front and rear.

The new defender looks good, it seems like an excellent option for those who want a comfortable daily that's also a capable overlander. If the Bronco doesn't pan out I may end up looking at a slightly used one in a few years. There are a few issues with it that put that firmly as a possible backup plan though

-I'm concerned about the reliability of a JLR product, especially the air suspension.
-It's significantly more than what I would expect a high performance Bronco to cost, once you add on the off-road options
-The weight is a bit too high for my liking, 5000 lbs for the 2 door P400
-No manual transmission

My Dad's diesel RR gives him problems, I tell him to get rid of the POS before the lease is up and get a Cayenne instead.

Yeah, no manual killed it for me, even though it was the last vehicle I was looking at *Cue that swede coming here to talk shit about manuals*

I like the new Defender, I've been looking at it, still might go that way. But as you guys have said, reliability is a major concern; maybe an extended warranty? The 6 cylinder supposedly has 395 hp, will go 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, and has a 129 mph top speed. The new Bronco will probably be better off road, but probably won't be as fast.

And?

Unlike JLR, Ford won't care as much about tuning, and with the price difference, you can make up the power deficit, not to mention row your own gears while driving topless and use the price difference for whatever you want

The only mods Ford doesn't care about are the Ford Performance mods or occasionally products from Mountune. Might be able to find a good dealer to overlook things though.

Who buys a SUV to go fast? Warranty isn't going to help you if it dies on a trail

Obviously I meant the dealer.

Easier to have a Ford Dealer overlook things than a JLR
