I suspect that part of the reason all the crap is on top of the engine is because its designed to traverse 30” of water, and some of that stuff surely can’t work underwater. Doesn’t matter, I gave up trying to work on my engine in the mid to late 70’s once they started putting all the emissions crap in there. Nowadays you can’t figure out what’s going on without it connected to a computer.
Which actually makes diagnosing easier.

Pretty sure she’s a fan of the engine design.

Ashley, you forgot to add this pic of the 2.7L - this is what it looks like when outside of the engine compartment:

(This is actually from an Audi)
My first thought was that it makes me like the relative simplicity of an EV. Not that either are remotely owner serviceable.

Where are the spark plugs located?
Have to get underneath vehicle and fight tooth and nail to find spark plugs 🤣
The spark plugs on this engine are actually pretty easy surprisingly enough. You can see the connector for the coil packs right here so the spark plugs are just down below. WAY easier than my Jeep JK 3.8.

I don't know but it is not the end of the world. To me it appears that most everything that would need to be removed for access to deeper parts it designed for east removal. Manufacturers are getting wise to design in more servicability as vehicles evolve more complexity. Work on something from the mid nineties to two thousands, it is a straight up bear. If you take the time to learn the systems then you can identify what is going on here. It will all be ok.

I was hoping to squeeze a little air comp under the hood . That doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

I'm hoping there's some room behind the wheel arches like on Wranglers.

It's not pretty, but it gets the job done. :) I won't be offering to lift the hood to show it off. It'll be better to show it off behind the wheel with people in the passenger seat. ;)

I had a '94 Audi that was an early pioneer in "engine presentation".

Which actually makes diagnosing easier.
Option A: take a wild guess, fix that part, see if it worked. If not, repeat until fixed.
Option B: let the various sensors and computer tell you exactly what's wrong and fix that

You and I like Option B

Oh, also, freebie with Option B is the more modern technology is more reliable. Meaning:

Option C: nothing goes wrong most of the time, so there's nothing to fix. :)
