Same. Shopping for Supra’s as I type
I'm assuming you're joking, but I'm kinda interested in the new Z to (possibly) replace my Dodge Challenger. I had a '77 280Z as a kid. I haven't liked any of the newer ones, but this latest one...

And regarding Supras, I have a friend who's uncle gave him his stock 90's Supra. I thought it was a fun car, but didn't think it was any big deal until he put in a local car show. Younger people were drooling all over it!

Thanks for keeping us updated on this hopefully one-off event. I look forward to seeing what the ultimate resolution Ford has for you.

There's a 1995 currently on Bring A Trailer with 7k original miles, original owner. Current bid is at $136k. Still 2 days left on the auction.

Update 7/28
Spoke with the dealer, current indication is that the engine actually seized up. I'm not exactly sure how that relates to the ABS/AdvanceTrac/Trailer Brake system warnings, but I guess that does explain why the engine would not turn over. Being a brand new vehicle, dealer opened a hotline with Ford Engineering to investigate further, understand exactly what happened, and propose next steps. Should hopefully know more in the next few days.

Original Post
Took my Bronco (Badlands, 2.7) to Silver Lake ORV Area in MI last week and spent a couple of hours tooling around the dunes. It was our first time on the dunes, I didn't baby it out there but also didn't do anything crazy that would land me on YouTube. Kept it in sand mode the entire time, had plenty of power, handled great, didn't get stuck. Overall, my family had a great time!

Made it about 80 miles down the road when this fault popped up on the dash. Was running fine on the way home up until then. No strange noises, temp levels normal, no noticeable leaks or anything. Next thing I knew, the engine stopped and we coasted to a halt on the side of the highway. Tried starting it a few times after letting it rest, but it would not even attempt to turn over, just kept displaying this error and the "Service Advancetrac" fault. All interior electronics were working fine, but ended up having to get it towed to the dealer.

It's still being diagnosed, but dealer mentioned a lot of sand underneath and that I might need to file a claim with my insurance which took me by surprise. Am I out of line thinking it should have been able to handle a trip to the dunes?

Hoping it's just a bad sensor or something minor. Love my Bronco but can't help feeling disappointed that it didn't make it back from it's first trip off-road.

Some more info / Q&A from thread:

Doors on the entire time.

The yellow check engine light came on about 5 seconds or so before the trailer brake fault and loss of power from engine. Will definitely keep this thread updated as I hear more.

Yes, I have the factory trailer towing package. Haven't towed anything yet. That would be interesting though because as you've mentioned we've seen a few ABS/Service Advancetrac errors pop up over the last few weeks.
You going to be in a loaner vehicle for awhile corporate will be involved they will take the engine out to determine the cause then put a new engine in it but now you will have diminished value anyone else thinking about jumping ship after all these issues that keep popping up

This happened to my sister on her brand new 2020 Subaru Ascent. Driving down the road, the dashboard lit up and the car shut down. It was such a rare event that Subaru flew somebody in to take a look at the engine/vehicle.

They replaced the entire motor and it has zero issues going forward.

This might be the situation where anecdote doesn't equal data.

shitty though.

pretty irrelevant from where i sit at the moment, hence why i said it was something i would follow.

Seems like every new vehicle (particularly brand new) has serious teething issues.

i had to lose the wrangler for a Cherokee for work back when they first came out. mine still wobbles left to right/right to left. Multiple accounts of them just shutting off as well. serious lag in throttle response getting onto the highway or merging at times (almost became a hood ornament for an 18 wheeler)

i'm not in a rush (or more to the point) a position to buy right now, so i have the luxury of following this and seeing how it plays out.

but I would also ask you, how many times have you come close to getting into an altercation with someone from the service department? and how many times have you had to print out from a forum the diagnosis and fix to a vehicle problem because they couldn't?
I hear you on service. Since Jeep wriggled out of their lifetime drivetrain warranty, it hasn't been near the dealer, and it does the famous 3.8L oil burning thing. And my wife had a Durango when they first came out that sludged up at 40000 miles. So they are a PITA.

No such thing as a matching numbers rig any more. VIM number are for the chassis only. No VIN on the engine or trans.

I believe that it ended in the 70's. Not sure the exact time frame but it has been many decades since a VIN has been on the engines.

I honestly agree with you. Still holding out to hear what Ford engineers say but with only one instance I don't think it's fair yet to label this as some sort of systemic issue. If I was watching this thread as a reservation-holder, I wouldn't change or cancel my order based on this alone.
I commend you OP on your attitude. When things like this happen, we have no control so let it roll. Do you know what day of the week your Bronco was built on? It wasn't Friday July 2nd was it?????

Ford Bronco Updated 7/29 [Engine Seized, Full Replacement Under Warranty] My Bronco shut down after sand dunes run OIP

I just can't understand how my Bronco broke
That is an awesome photo!

Sorry about your Bronco, OP. I hope they take care of you. Last thing i would want is the dealership installing a new engine.

So was the 99 Miata 1.8 bottom end, sometimes all it takes is for one specific part to be out of spec for a whole bunch of mayhem to ensue... in the case of the Miata, it was a thrust bearing, the 1.8BP lower end was in production for over 8 years when this happened.
actually that mazda motor started life as a 1.3L in the 80s. ford used it in all the escorts. the 1.8 iteration was just simply a progression of a tried and true engine. i sold my 2000 miata with supercharger running perfectly earlier this year.. that was a bullet proof engine, as displayed by just about any autocross event...
