Completely forgot about this question (was never a deal breaker for me anyway). "Is the Sync4 basic radio an HD unit"? The answer is "Yes. Yes it is." And this is good to know.

Good to confirm... we assume in this day and age and at this price point.... yet clearly Ford has a different take than we do!

Um... no, no it is NOT an HD radio. I wish, very disappointed that Ford skips out on this.

People in major markets with great radio choices and packed bandwidth that encourages even more channels using HD radio, like Atlanta, GA, USA.
Ya, I was just being a smart ass. I thought everyone listened to Apple Music, Spotify, Sirius XM, eBooks, etc. Vs. The radio. Can’t remember when I last turned on the radio in my Jeep, and I live in a major market.

What’s your source? Speaking from experience or is this in the manual? Even my 2016 Tundra’s piss poor infotainment has HD Radio. Can’t believe it’s not included.

Experience. Had mine for a week now. No HD.

IIRC GM dropped HD radio from their lineup in 2019 as well. I don't know how much it is, but there is a licensing fee to use HD for every device. HD is a technology developed by iBiquity, now owned by Xperi, who owns some other entertainment tech (Wikipedia). Typical up-charge on aftermarket systems that include it is $15-20/unit. My educated guess is that the additional hardware capability is probably <$2 and license is <$8, per unit, at volume. Ford and GM didn't want to option this for us at a savings of <$10 per vehicle. But, Ford delivered 2.4 Million vehicles in 2019, so that adds up to as much as $24 million in savings. For GM, it's just under $29 million. That's how you count them beans.

The 12" screen definitely has HD radio. Cant speak to the 8" but I would find it hard to believe it does not have it. Has been pretty standard for Ford to support HD radio for years now.
