I'm pushing 5000 miles on my Cactus Gray BB and am loving everything about it. If you would like an update, I'll provide it in another post. My issue right now is a stain that somehow ended up on my Bronco in the first 2 weeks of ownership. It appeared at the time to be tree sap from parking under a tree while camping. Not sure what kind of tree. I've tried WD40 to dissolve the stickiness, and I just washed it completely yesterday. Still the stain persists. Here is a picture...it's the middle of the hood.
Ford Bronco Paint "stain" question 20210810_104845

How could anything penentrate the finish as it seems this has? It has a slightly raised feeling but I can't get it to budge.

What do I do?

They make bug & tar remover for painted surfaces. Did you let the WWJD40 sit for a while?

As a woodworker, sap constantly coats my blades. It takes special cleaners and a wire brush to keep my blades clean. It can be quite stubborn to get off even smooth, flat surfaces.

I strongly recommend not using a wire brush in your case.

Try an adhesive remover like goo gone or goof off. Always try lightest to more aggressive, 3m makes an adhesive remover also but its more $ .

Hey, I do woodworking too! Is it a hobby for you or your profession? I have been working a lot with weathered wood lately so haven't dealt with sap. My problem is dense, weathered hardwood bogging down my table saw and radial arms.

I did let it sit as long as I was comfortable with. BTW...is WWJD40 a combo of wd40 and prayer?

What they said with the bug N Tar remover.
Then Clay bar. (i would clay bar the whole thing, personally)
Then rubbing compound (if needed)
Then a good wax or Ceramic coating.
Sometimes rubbing alcohol works but you have to be sparing and gentle to make sure it will not lift the paint first. Not the 99% stuff, either. Like maybe 50-70%

And then this, because I HAD to:

Same here, buddy.
And by the way, time is of the essence.
I'd get back on getting that off ASAP.
If it imprints the clear you will see that spot forever or have to cover it with one of those flat black (or Bougie fancy ones) hood decals...

All our vehicles get sap if we park outside, hand sanitizer is magic and effortless. Once that takes off the gunk try clay bar and then a polish compound.
Edit: Get a coating of wax, ceramic or graphene (my choice) on there.

I would try Simple Green found at most big box home stores.

Rubbing alcohol shouldn't affect the paint at all even at high concentration. It's alcohol, not solvent.

as others said goof off or the likes should do the trick.

If you have any avon skin so soft it works great on oil and tar. Also a good mosquito repellent.

Grew up in a rural-ish area on a gravel road and every so often oil/tar was sprayed/ poured over the gravel. It would cause all kinds of build-up and crap on a car. After running a list of things that just worked the best.
