For the past 20 years I've lived in both California and Utah, both of which "require" front plates. I've run front plates in neither for those 20 years and have never been cited or even pulled over for it. Whenever I buy a new vehicle I specifically instruct the dealer to not drill holes for a front plate if holes are not pre-drilled at the factory.

Off topic, but did you paint the bronco lettering in the grille?
Yes I removed them and painted them. Check out the thread I made in the ā€œexteriorā€ section about painting my emblem for all the details on how to do it and what I used. In that thread I cover the emblem and also have some information and pictures on the grill letter painting.

I installed a stainless nutsert in the bumper so I could put my front plate somewhere other than the most ridiculous place possible! Ie where Ford decided to put it.

FYI, they just use license plate screws into the body coloured trim under the grill.

I'm assuming I might get a little rust from the hole I drilled in the bumper but at least it's a little less ridiculous.

Maybe a bit of nail polish on the holes or if you have some, take the bolts out put some form-a-gasket on the holes and put the bolts back in while it is wet. Seals it up and acts a bit like locktite on the nuts and bolts.

Of course it is screwed directly into the plastic. That's how they are designed to mount. No argument there.

I thought you were saying that they screwed your plate directly onto the plastic, and skipped the plate holder.
Yeah. The screws they use leave nasty 1/4" holes too.

Yeah the Ford plate mount is horrible. I made two different brackets and it took two adjustments to the second one, but I finally got one that works/looks good.

I need to do the same when mine arrives next month. I bought a bracket for my BMW and installed it, however it beeps constantly every time I stop unless I put it in park. I know its one of the sensors but I've yet to figure out a fix. McFly!!!

Park your car in Malibu. Instant 50 dollar front plate ticket.
