Ford Sales Rise From August, Fall Year Over Year

DOW JONES & COMPANY, INC. 8:35 AM ET 10/4/2021

Ford Motor Co. (F) sold a third more cars in September compared with August, but volume was lower year over year amid declines in truck and car sales.

Last month, Ford's retail sales rose by 34% compared with August as the company recorded 52,000 new vehicle orders, the company said. Sales for the Lincoln brand rose by 53% month over month on strong demand for the Nautilus sport- utility vehicle, Ford said.

Still, sales were down year over year, with retail sales declining 21% compared with September 2020. Supply-chain challenges, including a shortage of semiconductors, have hampered carmakers' ability to turn out new vehicles.

In total, Ford sold 156,614 vehicles last month. SUV retail sales rose 3.7% year over year, but truck retail sales fell 30% and car retail sales were down 80%.

As production challenges have thinned inventories, Ford said that vehicles have been moving from dealer lots to customers at the fastest pace this year.

Sales of electrified Ford vehicles in September were 9,150, up 92% year over year.

Bronco production really fell off in September from the previous few months. Ouch. 25,539 built through the end of September.
I would think it should be picking up. I'm sure the roof issues is a big reason for the low production numbers for the month.

Units sold and units produced are essentially flat. That's a positive sign compared to past months. Hopefully October will have a heavy imbalance towards units sold.

That would mean they had less than 4,000 soft tops available for the month if that was the limiting factor. That doesn't seem to make sense since they also built well under capacity for the months coming in. If so, and Webasto can't even keep up on Soft Tops at that low pace....then wow. It would be nice if we still had factory sources around here...

This just might be the most 'exclusive' vehicle I've ever owned. At least for a year or two before it becomes more mainstream.

I kind of read it as produced Bronco (25k) less the month of September = 21,621 build through August, and 10,204 delivered/sold by September. Guess the difference of 11k (21.6k minus 10.2k) is demo (I think we had estimated 7k) with the rest held back at Dirt Mountain for MIC top, and some others held back for non-MIC related issues.

No, Ford is clamping down on its social media policy with employees, vendors, and dealers.

Uhhhhh was production stopped at points in September or is this just all they were able to make? Does refitting the tops slow production line even though itā€™s out of the mod center or whatever? Not looking good for the other 100,000+ of usā€¦.???? Anyone have information to explain my naivety in this matter?
