Don’t want to rain on folks parade here but we seem to be forgetting about the cap gains tax one would owe as well. Assuming short term, could be as high as 37.5% at federal level. State tax also where law applies. $30k in gain now much less.

My guess is many may forget about those gains and report correctly. In that case, if caught in audit, your gains decline with penalties and interest.

Edit: Short term defined as <1yr.

If you (anyone) truly have the financial means to afford a near $60k truck - then a potential $20k profit probably wont keep you up at night.

I don't think "Quick fad" describes the situation in an accurate way.

New car shortage.

Used car shortage

Consumers flush with funds

A cool vehicle (Bronco) with a very limited production run

This industry shortage will likley last through 2022. The Bronco shortage, even longer. A person off the street will struggle getting a Bronco before 2023.

If I needed or wanted the funds, flipping the Bronco wouldn't even be a hard conversation.

It is a very reasonaable problem, Keep my Bronco, or sell it for profit and put the proceeds into a 529 plan for my daughter's college? If she is young enough, a young family might fund a 4 years education off the profit from one Bronco.

Yeah, maybe we are all crazy. LOL
it's a fad, paying 10k plus over sticker for any bronco. The FE is hardly limited and not even numbered. Sure vehicle shortages can drive a little more demand with people in general paying closer to MSRP but that has little to no affect on this conversation.

My wife and I bought new Broncos in 1993 and 1995, we've waited 26 years to buy another one new. Ours is scheduled for build next Friday, when it gets here if I'm asked that question I'll answer the same way I do when I get asked about selling our 79 wtih 31,000 miles on it and original paint.

Yes, but that's beside the point. Everyone who sees the Bronco is loving it but the first or second question out of their mouth is quite literally, "Dude, why didn't you resell it? You could make a schnike(sp?) ton of money (my wife has asked me that once or twice as well, she just doesn't call me Dude). I chuckle and say, I know, I know. My response is always, "you can make more money but they won't be making anymore 2021 FE Broncos; and I can't take it with me so why not enjoy it while I can."

Every time someone says something like that I peek back into the Auto resellers and think, "geesh am I" giving up $20-30K? Not buyer's remorse, but more like resellers regret.
Those that sell don’t get the big picture of why most are excited about owning a Bronco.

Just because you see Broncos listed at $20K to $30K over doesn’t mean they are selling. eBay has a boat load of Broncos listed like that. The only ones that I have witnessed actually sell were a few that had actual auctions and not buy now. Most of the auctions have a reserve and folks bid on them knowing they are under the reserve just to say they did. I have watched the listing rather carefully
and the majority are not selling.
Look under completed sold items. They have been selling, not just listing, first editions for anywhere between the low $80's to over $100K. Since Oct 18th for instance (the last week), they have SOLD 10 First Editions with a low of $80,500 to a high of $99,900. Only 1 was buy it now. The rest were auctions that people won and were over the reserve.

I get the excitement and all but if there was a chance at a quick easy $30,000 +, I'd jump on that and reorder another.

Do those same people also tell you to sell your house because there's equity in it? Or maybe sell your wife's wedding ring since I'm sure it's worth more now than when you bought it lol! Nah they don't. When something is important to us then it's hard to put a price tag on it. And if you really want a Bronco then why sell the one you want, only to buy something you don't want? Also, if it's worth 20-30K now, what's it gonna be worth 10 years from now? Will an FE be worth 50K more 5 years from now? A car that appreciates is worth keeping IMO...

I have a hunch reselling these things for $20K+ over what you paid is not a slam dunk. For one thing its now a used car. For $20K over its probably not too hard to find a dealer willing to sell.

I feel the same way, I was offer 150k for my FE when it had 300 miles. My wife said "you are nuts to not sell it"
I had a feeling, if you read my much earlier posts, this truck (especially 2021 models) will be very rare and the price will skyrocket. You have a 21 hardtop...jackpot!!

I was told by everyone in 6G I was nuts and nobody will pay 100k for a FE.. LOL.. No try 120k to 170k.

The real issues for me are.
1. The truck is the most fun truck I have ever drove in my entire life ...
2. I always wanted a Bronco and by the time I was old enough to afford one, they were donezo.
3. I will never ever be able to get a Lightning Blue FE with navy pier sas hartop.
4. I can make more money, they are not making more LB<FE<NP<SAS<HT and my dealer didn't shaft me either. I buy another one i'll have to wait, I will be paying over sticker forsure.
5. Inflation scares me a bit and at 62k, I am happy with the price point for the value. (I know this irritates you reading, but in today's economic circumstances it feels fair) I would never usually say this but, I am being honest.
6. Did I mention how fun this thing is? its a vehicle and a toy. I really dig it.

As you said, you won’t be able to get another First Edition, I will take satisfaction in knowing I’m driving the vehicle I wanted.

I've thought the same, mines not an FE though. I'd say 35k+ would be my selling point.

Maybe worth thinking about... Mine won't arrive until December, but perhaps there's no real risk in listing the thing to see what offers I get. Can always order a MY22...
