Me: Call me back when you have some sort of deal for me, I’m not in a hurry.

I will wait a few days for them to call me back while I shop around for better deals.
Which brings up a good questions. How many days is our order window open once our number gets pulled from the queue? 5, 10, 30??

Good question. Probably forever. I’m willing to bet our reservation is no more than a spot in line and contact info for possible buyers. The real line is at order.

GREAT QUESTIONS:

You can get pre approved but financing will be handled at delivery..

Yes that is the time that the sale price and trade in valuations are handled

Go with the dealership that will work with you and fit your needs...

Many forum members have reached out to me about Granger Ford and would do business but have a great relationship with their local dealer...we understand and accept that fact...
Get your own financing through your own bank if possible. Take that power away from them(the dealer).

Typically your dealership might require a non-refundable deposit of $500 or $1000 once you submit your order sheet.

So if you back out of the deal and never take delivery, the dealer still makes out a little for the hassle of now having to sell the vehicle on its lot.
but depending on your state law if the vehicle isn’t delivered within in a certain amount of time after ordering the money is refundable, so keep that in mind, as these will likely not be coming for another 4-6 Months after ordering.

i'd like to also add that in my experience, there's no reason to discuss how you plan to pay for the car (besides trade-ins) with the sales person. how much you're putting down, how much you plan to finance - talk about that with the dealership finance department (if you're financing through them), not with the sales person. it's none of their business really. their job is only to come to an agreement on total price.

this is under the assumption that the sales and finance departments are separate.

1. Negotiate the purchase
2. Negotiate the trade (if any) remember you are ordering it so sell it retail if you can first
3. Then work on the finance if necessary, and compare with CU and local banks

You will be 8 weeks at a minimum out to get your ride so only agree on numbers at the ordering stage...

I've not ordered a vehicle before. What funds change hands at the time of placing an order? I understand price is worked out but financing isn't in place until delivery. I'm planning in trading my car in plus cash down. There will be several months between ordering and delivery that I'll be able to set aside more cash to put down (want the payment as low as possible to not upset the household CFO aka the wife).
We are only using the $100 deposit already on file...why hold more money for many months?

The dealer will never call you back because he has a list of peeps waiting their turn. He will go to the next person inline and eventually someone will submit the order.

Your strategy will only work if you are the only customer they have and this example they have plenty of customers to say NEXT!

I'm sorry but due to the high demand of the Bronco, the dealer unfortunately will have the upper hand.

Wait for a year after the release when the inventory outweighs demand and your strategy will work.

When the order banks open and my dealer calls me below is what I will say. No trade for me.

Me: Here’s the options/build I want how much below invoice, out the door?
Dealer:xxxxx
Me: Call me back when you have some sort of deal for me, I’m not in a hurry.

I'd love to try sell my Acura soonish so I can save some money and not have a car payment before the Bronco comes in, but I also don't trust a 35 year old clapped out Toyota as my only car. Just have to really negotiate my trade beforehand to get the max I can out of it.

How do you negotiate a trade-in (in Dec) for a Bronco delivery in Jul or later? Thanks

I did this.. i traded in my Tacoma to buy my Mazda. We negotiated everything, they ordered the Mazda, and I had to hand over the keys right then and there.

I would find it hard to believe they would agree on a trade in, then let you continue to drive it.

Financing in December probably won't work, most banks have a limit on how long an approval is good for, usually 30-60 days. That said, if your credits good in December, probably still good in July, rates could change, but I don't expect anything drastic.

As for trades, that's tough, no one knows what something will be worth that far in the future, look at this year Compare December to April and April to now, pricing has plummeted and then when back up through the roof on used cars. If you've got a dealer you know and trust, something can be worked out using values provided by an wholesale guide (Manhiem market report is the one we use most) at the time of delivery. If you've got a late model car and can survive a year without it, I'd sell now, I don't think we'll see used cars (as a whole) ever be as high as they are right now.
