Thanks for your response! That sucks that your dealer has washed their hands of your Bronco. I just got the call this morning from the dealer that my Bronco has been "fixed," but there is a part they are still waiting on (it's a trim piece on the A pillar that was warped). I can pick it up today. I'll be honest, I'm nervous as hell to drive it anywhere beyond a 5 mile radius. I'm sure my dealer did their best but I keep thinking, what's gonna go wrong next?!

I was told that my RAV claim has been approved, too. I'm supposed to be contacted about that next week.
If I had gotten mine back in anything like a reasonable time, I probably would have just kept it and been done. I am going for replacement because my dealership keeps making excuses about being short-staffed and not having parts and I just don't think they are capable of fixing it. Good luck whatever you do! Mine looks just like yours, just 2.3 7-speed.

4 months..really.. I really find it hard to believe. It just goes to show how little power consumers really have.

Is your second Broncos with the same dealer? I kind of hope it's not because they don't deserve the sale.

Unfortunately, my second one is coming from the dealer that has failed to fix the first one. I had a reservation (two actually) but did not place an order, as I was waiting for manual Squatch. As delays mounted, I got impatient and just bought an abandoned order from a dealer in Ohio (at MSRP). When it crapped out, I just took it into the local dealer. I ordered the replacement from the local dealer because that’s where my reservation was. I agree they are not worthy of a sale, but I was trying to hurry the process. Here is where my Bronco has been for the last 7 weeks. Dirt lot about 1/2 mile from the dealership.

I picked up my Bronco last night. I spent quite a bit of time talking to the tech that put the new 2.7 in. The new 2.7 engine has a serial number that corresponds to the 125th day of 2021 (May 5, 2021), the old engine had a production date 160th day of 2021 (June 9, 2021).

He had mentioned that he has been reading about these failures, and wondered why most are on cylinder 4...He also pointed out a few other 2021 vehicles on hoists that needed serious engine work done, too. Hmmmm.

Can I ask what the sequence number was? 119xxx or 120xxx

😬 I didn't get the new 2.7L sequence number from him, but I'll get it.
It will confirm how many engines they are building, I suspect that the sequence numbers are not related to the date number... If I am right this can't happen:

Trace Eng Serial No EF06A21160120249 MB3E 6007 AA
Trace Eng Serial No EF06A21180120249 MB3E 6007 AA

But this is how it really works (my best guess):

Trace Eng Serial No EF06A21125119XXX MB3E 6007 AA
Trace Eng Serial No EF06A21125120XXX MB3E 6007 AA
Trace Eng Serial No EF06A21160120068 MB3E 6007 AA <-Your engine
Trace Eng Serial No EF06A21180120249 MB3E 6007 AA <- My engine 20 days later and +181 units

I could be wrong, but I don't think that I am. Your new engine is more than likely a 119XXX (probably around 119,500-800 range). If I was playing a numbers game, I would go with:

Trace Eng Serial No EF06A21125119718 MB3E 6007 AA

but that's just me.

The plot thickens. This story has more twists & turns than a TV soap opera. I wonder if Ford will just keep swapping out engine #2, engine #3, engine #4...or whether they'll offer to just buy back all the MY21 Broncos? :)

Dealer told me it was a dropped valve, but was told by Ford not to tear down

Interesting.. they haven’t taken the “older” engines out of circulation. To me that indicates it’s not a design flaw(I think they had to change some plumbing to get the engine to fit in the Bronco?). Likely a bad batch between a certain date range… or Ford still has no idea what’s going on with the blown motors. I know sh*t happens in manufacturing… but so far the 2.3… sh*t hasn’t happened .

Ya, I am definitely thinking it's a bad batch. I am trying to narrow down the range, hopefully, they know which motors are potentially affected at this point, but they may not know yet. I don't see it as a design issue (at least nothing that points to that as the answer).

Okay, now I am really confused, lol.

It's a different engine part number for starters. MB3E-6006-AA vs MB3E-6007-AA
So, maybe it's a change between the 6006 and 6007 motors. Still the sequence number would suggest that this is a motor between your number and my number. Technically making it later in the sequence, but older with regards to revision.

Yep, sorry. I realized that when I compared the 6006 to 6007. Where am I gonna find this serial # without climbing in?! I'm 100% sure this is the serial number that the tech used to decode production date to the 125th day of 2021, though.
