Are you keeping your front windows closed?

Also, you smell like a gas can because you're driving around in an '84 K5.

;)
doesn't matter, even with front windows open it still actually pulls air in the back. aerodynamics are not as simple and straightforward as you are thinking, opening the side windows and the rear window, you still get some rear to forward air flow. in fact, if you put some string and tape along the rear window, you would see that different parts of the opening the air flow is in completely diff directions.

or you could go for a ride with my in my 86, I smell like exhaust all the time when I have the windows open.

Basically, can anyone here give me any benefits of the flip up window besides cheaper? Anything at all?

Third camp- those who have experience with both types but prefer the convenience of the roll down window vs the flip up glass.
I have dogs. I liked to roll down the rear window enough that they could get some air, but not far enough that they could jump out (which one actually did to me once when he saw a groundhog on the side of the road.)

Toyota offers a roll down rear window on the 4runner, sequoia, and tundra. I don't hear about any issues with those vehicles...?
Whoa-ho-ho-ho.

Just google "4runner rear hatch problem."

Whatever. I think it's a bit late to talk ford into redesign.

agreed. I would like to see the aftermarket step up here, but that is a big ask, as that is not a minor change. new tailgate, electrical, motors, and new top.

Mark me down as a Wrangler owner that drives around with the back window flipped up from time to time. Window struts have yet to fail me and no carbon monoxide poison to date.

I am sure the aftermarket will come up with a tailgate and/or roll down window solution if there is enough demand. Then everyone here complaining about how Ford messed-up the tailgate/window design can complain about how expensive the solution is.

Yeah, I agree that Ford won't change it at this point, but that doesn't mean that we can't point out areas where we think they dropped the ball (interior color options anyone?)

I'd be really surprised if there was an aftermarket solution for this, a whole new hardtop rear clamshell would definitely be required to accommodate the different sealing requirements for the window.

I'll be more inclined to drive around without whole the top than drive around with the rear window popped open.

Can't fold down if you have a spare tire mounted to it which the Honda does not.

Who's saying the accessory is plastic? Sure looks metal to me.
Dang... I just realized the spare doesn't swing out like the old school ones! missed that, my bad.

And likely complicates things due to the rear camera involvement....still, a swing out tire with fold down gate should not have been difficult.

mine are out the sides, I need to redo my exhaust anyways and will be moving them to in front of the tires, that helps out even more. and of course she runs hella rich

Is there a rear wiper? If so, where?
