Hey everyone, loving my Bronco but also buying a truck and needed to share this experience since this dealer is in Central Texas. They sold my reserved Raptor right out from under me!! ☹

I was completely screwed over by Covert Ford in Austin, TX. Details below, which are 100% accurate. Spoke with the GM of dealer today, Carlos, and would highly recommend NOT to do business with such clowns.

Raptor 37 PP with an Oct 10 2021 order date:
- walked into dealer Jan 19th 2022
- sales person and inventory manager print out a few Raptors that they have dealer stock ordered and told me were not spoken for and available to reserve
- I selected a Black, loaded 37 PP
- Signed the attached order form which included the VIN number, order number, and agreement to pay $5k over sticker
- paid $500 deposit and both myself and the salesperson signed the document
- Called 2.17.22 (my B-Day) hoping to get any updates and good news as a gift
- salesperson starts back peddling and says the truck might have to be switched?!?!
- I then visit the dealer 2.18.22 and ask for Sales Manager, Lee, he apologizes about confusion and claims he will get to the bottom of it since there are 2 buyers, 1 truck. I said if I’m the 2nd guy, I’ll back off and take my deposit back, but I could tell something was off.
- straight asked if they sold to someone else for more money and it was obvious
- they then ghost me for 3 days after he claims we was gonna work it out with the GM
- GM calls me today, provides no real reason that this mistake happens and has the nerve to say “my story isn’t adding up” and that they can’t sell me the truck. And they can’t confirm if/when another 37 PP available. I plead my case and falls on deaf ears, as they don’t care and want the extra $$ from the other buyer.

I ask for my deposit back and said I’ll take business elsewhere and would rather pay more money to work with a dealer that has any integrity, which is rare nowadays.

It’s truly a shame dealers can get away with this nowadays, but what can I do.

Anyways if you read this whole post, I appreciate the floor to vent, and please do NOT use Covert Ford Austin, TX

Bought a Tremor instead from Mac Haik (who have been awesome) and will enjoy it till this market hopefully adjust back to sanity in a couple years and I can get a Raptor next time!! My Bronco still favorite though!! 😀

to give you an idea of why this happened - another dealer had a 37 Raptor listed for $113,000 (sticker 83k). The 5k ADM you agreed to isnt going to win that fight.

edit - That tremor is sharp!

Did you get your Bronco from Covert? How did that go?

The car market is so messed up. At least it is letting us in on who the scumbags are. I'll stay away from Covert, but I had an idea about them already (actually any dealer in the Austin metro is going to be swooning at all the techie cash flying around now). But these people buying depreciating cars at astronomical amounts above MSRP....I shake my head. I am sure a lot of them don't care much about their money because, well...they're loaded. But I am doing pretty well and still don't want to be ripped off like a rube.

Maxwell Ford has not been charging ADM on Bronco orders. I will continue to give them props until proven otherwise given how many dealers are being shady.

I second @gtx_bronc on Maxwell Ford. There are posts from a few people who have had an excellent experience there, myself included. Christine Boyd is their Bronco specialist and she is a Bronco enthusiast herself. I also was regularly assured of paying MSRP, which is what was honored when I picked up my Bronco.

I had originally signed up with Covert back in July 2020 for the Bronco. When it came time to place the order, I waited 5 days for them to submit it, and they had never had saying they're too busy. I then went with Mac Haik in G'twn and everything went smooth thereafter(except for the hardtop fiasco and such). BTW, I had ordered a mole system for the tailgate from Covert since they were nearby, after two months and them having to reorder it twice I finally got it. They never contacted me as I had to just randomly stop by from time to time to ask if it had arrived.

Call Paul Daniel at Bill Fick Ford. They don't have any funny business and will take care of you. I purchased my F250 from him in September and now my Bronco. No dealer in the Austin/San Antonio area wanted my business.

While I'm getting my Bronco from Covert at MRSP, they do suck as far as dealers go when it comes to communication and their service department. I tried Leif Johnson once for service on my ST and they were just as bad as Covert.

Yep, after calling Josh at Covert 3 times to convert my reservation to an order a year ago only to be responded with, "i'll call you back in 10 minutes" and never called back any time, I said fuck this, and switched to Johnson Sewell in Marble Falls. I have my final price signed off and expecting delivery in March. Johnson Sewell picked up my call and converted an order right away. So far, great service from them (but their allocation seems to be more backed up than other dealers, which worked out in the end considering the ice mountain debacle). I'm so glad I switched dealers.

Can I repost this on a FB group?

Yeah, thanks for the comments and feedback, much appreciated and sounds like these dealer horror stories are becoming more and more the norm. Which is equally frustrating and just sad. I’m a handshake guy that my word is as good as a contract, so dealing with folks like Covert just doesn’t sit right.

To answer a few of the comments:
- No, didn’t buy Bronco at Covert, I did at a little dealer outside Houston called Demontrond Ford. Super easy deal. Bought F150 Tremor from Mac Haik and great experience as well.
- I totally get that the Raptor 37 package is going for $20k+ Over MSRP and why I was so excited and placed deposit asap when I was quoted and signed off on for only $5k over.
- yes, feel free to share on FB page and anywhere else. That pic of the signed order document was on 1.19.22 and they took a $500 deposit specifally for that VIN number, only to lie later and say the truck was “already sold” over a month later only when I checked up on it, they did not notify or contact me to deliver that BS news, only found out when I asked to see if the truck had a confirmed build date or not.

Thanks again everyone! And happy wheeling!

It would be interesting to see
what a lawyer could do with a signed DORA from both parties with a VIN number re: breach of contract on their part...

@Draughon They would need to prove some sort of loss beyond the deposit. And if they gave the deposit back to you then....maybe the interest it would have gained or if you had some sort of catastrophic loss due to not having the vehicle....it would be some real Johnny Johnny Cochran stuff haha (my wife is an attorney and I like to pose this kind of stuff to her for my entertainment) :)

Even more ridiculous is that Covert Ford hasn’t even refunded my deposit?! Maybe gives me an excuse to go there is person and let everyone in the sales office know why I’m here to get the deposit back on my truck they sold to someone else as loud as I can! 😀
