Run starting in the West Valley! Sunday 5.26.2024. Castle Hot Springs to Mayer
It has been a while since we put together a run that actually starts in the West Valley area that is also something for most everyone. While it is not a “newbie run” in our traditional sense, this is a trail that most can do.
We are going to run from Castle Hotsprings up through the Bradshaws and end in Mayer.
There are a few spots that get a little chunky here and there but no major obstacles to worry about through the run. I am hoping for a great Sunday ride! We have done a number of more technical rides recently so it is time for something a little more leisurely! Along the route are a couple spots that are a little chunky and may cause pause for a new driver, but nothing that any Sasquatch or Non Sasquatch Bronco can’t handle. I would not bring a Bronco Sport up here though. If, in those couple areas you need a spot or help, we will be there for you!
We will meet at 9:30AM Sunday May 26th at the Shell station on the corner of Lake Pleasant Parkway and Old Carefree Highway. (Coordinates 33.79749, -112.24220). We will head out at 9:45 sharp.
From there we will ride up together to stage and air down when we leave pavement and start up past Castle Hot Springs. The route will take us up past the Castle Hot Springs Resort, up Cow Creek road, then we will hit FS362 and on up to Senator Highway (FS52). We will continue on Senator Highway but rather than following it on in to Prescott we will turn off on FS67 and head towards Mayer. (This trail is NOT the backway to Crown King.). We will stop for lunch along the trail so don’t forget something to eat! This is a 56 mile track.
The Bradshaws are beautiful this time of year so this ride should get us out of the heat and provide some stunning views!
When we ran this at night the opposite direction in August of last year it took us about 6 hours with 3 ½ hours of actual moving time on the trail and a couple hours stopped for the sunset. Please plan for around 6 hours with stops depending on how many stops we make and the size of the group.
As always…. On ANY trail in Arizona there is an inherent risk of Arizona pin stripes or scrapes/scratches. The Arizona Broncos group does not take any responsibility for any damage that may happen along the trail.
What to bring (The basics)
• GMRS Radio (We will pick the channel when we air down). PLEASE, make sure you know how to use your radio before we go!
• More water and drinks than you think you will need
• Bring a lunch and chairs for when we break
• We will air down but if you don’t have a compressor, we can help out
Picture of the track is included. Reach out if you have any questions! Looking forward to a great day.
