Daughter seems to be catching the bug.

She asked me tonight when the next time we can go off-roading.

Anyone got any trips planned in the next week or two?

This weekend should be a no, unless you’re prepared to deal with and drive over ice. Chance some of the usual trails may even get closed. MLK weekend, which is next weekend is when I’ll aim to head out, so we can do that track I had planned a couple of weeks ago before the weather or even further North like in the Blue Ridge area could be fun with the elevation and some fog.

Looks like the SEGEN6 crew on FB are doing a ride down Old Bucktown; the entire thing, this Friday night! That’s a bold ride for anyone here brave enough to join that. Be prepared to spend the night out there with some serious gear just in case things really get fun. That’s PNW wheeling right there for sure!

@MadMan4BamaNATL we should have enough people to recover anyone from issues. Worst case scenario we have enough people to huddle up and survive off body heat 😄

Really though, potential for icy roads and other traffic on the way is the real concern

@Gene Dios yeah that's the only reason I'm passing. I don't trust not getting hit by someone on the drive up.

I am curious to ya’lls opinion. I’m thinking when taxes come in this year about upgrading the suspension on my Bronco. Currently I’m debating about the Bilstein 6112 kit or the Eibach Pro-Truck Coilovers Kit. I won’t be able to upgrade the wheels/tires until later in the year, but that will be the inevitable goal.

Price difference is negligible so curious as to everyone’s thoughts on performance between the two.

I went with the Eibach pro kit and Sone upper control arms. I’ve been really impressed with the ride quality over the bilsteins while on the same Sasquatch tires. Panda Motorworks had a good deal if you reach out to them directly for a combo price better than their website lists.

@TheI3lindMan if you're installing a full on coilover set like the eibach, it's not that difficult. Definitely need space, time, tools, and some tall jackstands.

If you're swapping springs it gets more involved and a little sketcher
TheI3lindMan
TheI3lindMan
@Gene Dios Ya i think that’s why I’m leaning toward Eibach…currently I’m looking at ~600 in labor for either option, thinking I can make a trip to Harbor Freight and buy the tools I need for less then that. That said haven’t exactly factored in the time/stress I would take to do the job verses just have someone else do it in an afternoon.
FSUMcFly
FSUMcFly
@TheI3lindMan a group of us did the install, it wasn’t too difficult but having all the right tools to torque everything to spec is crucial. It took most of a day just taking our time, but If I had to do it again and could find a shop willing to do it for a reasonable price I’d probably go that route for simplicity. Having the coilovers pre assembled and not needing to remove springs from the Bilsteins was a big time saver.

Am I the only one that's more curious of how to get a refund from the irs? 🤔

If I was you I'd be pressing for new tires (and I guess wheels) over the suspension. The OBX street tires are gonna get you stuck in mud regardless of your suspension.

I have some badlands take offs that I've been to lazy to actually install. But looking at just doing them when I knock out the jump to 35s.

What is this weather? I’m thinking about taking the doors off and dropping the top for a ride!

We’re all prepping for a Merry Christmas is my prayer to all of you. After the holiday, thinking of a last trail ride of 2024 either next Friday, Dec 27 or Sunday Dec 29. Any can join and Sasquatch not required. Don’t want to get in the way of any NFL watching, so if anyone is around and down to roll, let me know. Looking at the Rock Creek area, then over to the John Dick trail network including John Dick Creek Road. Forest Road 69C is in this area as well and is a fun loop at elevation. This is Morganton, GA basically. Another name for this road is Lower Frozen Branch Road. Total about 20 off road miles give or take a few, so the day will start at 9:30 and likely on trails until around 1:00pm with time to be home well before nightfall. Hope some of you will be around and can join. No rock crawling with this one, but as always, more fun if wet. Cheers and Happy Holidays!

Hey guys!

I got called out of town unexpectedly for work yesterday and will be out in Chicago for the next week. This unfortunately means my Bronco is still fairly dirty from our trip this weekend. Wife asked if she could take it to get cleaned (she likes to drive it while I'm out of town), but with the soft top I'm a little hesitant. Up to this point I've just been hand washing it. Is there any place you would recommend in the North ATL area?

I recently bought some vinyl decals for my car from PremiumCarsDecalsShop on Etsy, and I just have to recommend them! 😎 The quality is top-notch — they apply smoothly with no air bubbles and look like they came straight from the factory. The customer service was excellent too — quick responses and fast shipping.
By the way, did you know that properly placed decals can not only enhance the look of your vehicle but also protect the paint from damage? That’s exactly what they helped me achieve!
If you're looking for high-quality vinyl decals to add a personal touch to your car or revamp your interior, [store name] is the place to go! Highly recommend it!

Hey there fellow bronco owners,

This year I introduced my 10 year old into kayaking which has been amazing! Getting her away from a digital screen has been a great way to connect while getting some fresh air!

With it getting colder I was hoping to maybe pivot into some light off roading and continue the adventures we started this year with kayaking (she doesn’t like kayaking in the cold).

To be fair I have zero experience with off roading, and I’m really just looking for some light trails with beautiful views I can bring her along with. Does anyone have any recommendations on specific trails or are there any like minded groups that could start to show me the ropes? We live in Cherokee county (north ga), and I’m hoping to find some trails within ~2 hours away. I currently own a 2024 non-SAS OBX bronco, but if I can get her interested in this I’m not opposed to building out upgrades over the next year.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

To get your feet wet on a large, but non-threatening trail network, look to the Nimblewill area of Forest Road 28-1. These are a network of fire roads that even passenger cars can often traverse when it’s dry out and there is enough traffic that should something go awry, there is always help close by. You can camp if so inclined as well and just overall test out your tolerance for being outdoors and in 4x4 type areas. Once you get used to these trails or type of trails, get some recovery gear, learn more about your rig, etc, then we can discuss water crossings and other things that many of us get into, but mostly only after getting familiar with things and some basic gear. Most important is to not feel rushed or pressured into anything, as the woods ain’t going nowhere and we all have different stress tolerances. If you ever want to go run trails, best to go with others at least at first, see what we bring and learn why, how to use the stuff, etc, then just enjoy it man. It’s fun, your daughter will likely love it too. You can hike, get to trail heads and sites to kayaking and anything else. I also strongly recommend attending the Off-Roadeo in Tennessee; it’s worth it for all experience levels and will be memorable and fun. I and others are more than happy to meet up with you for trail rides. We’ll likely do one or two mid December and it really picks up in Spring. Good times ahead; real good times.

@TheI3lindMan One more thing in all seriousness. Do some research on hygiene needs for your daughter. Having to pee in the woods is different for women and there are a few things that can make that easier with less anxiety about it. I’ve seen women basically dehydrate all day to avoid going in the woods and that shouldn’t be. Stuff for female hikers should do the trick as far as search parameters. She’ll appreciate your efforts.

Man, it’s like a ghost town around here…. :ROFLMAO:

Well, hunting season is upon us and although I don’t think I’ll get out this season, I tend to not run trails while the boys are out shooting up the woods. The deer this year in North Georgia have been a pain, so I wish the fellas all the best to take down as many of them cute but truck killing buggers as possible.

Anyway, Until mid-Dec, guess I’m grounded, but wanted to check if anyone plans to drive up to Super Cel in April? I just booked and prices are still normal.

Dates are April 23-26 in Townsend, TN, so right where Off-Roadeo is held. Should be a fun year with Off-Roadeo nearby, so if you think you’d like to go, book now. Prices for rooms will rise in January for sure.

It was fine, but there were some lessons learned. Paying extra for the VIP parking was a waste considering it was right next to the regular parking, and that obstacle course was definitely not worth $40. I also feel like there wasn't really an incentive to buy a ticket to the event considering you could still visit the winery without one and have the same experience minus a wine glass and a tote bag. I enjoyed the Talking Rock Bronco Stampede much more maybe because that wasn't a ticketed event. Despite all that I had fun and it was a good day overall. Always good to see some awesome Broncos.

@Scleary1212 I feel like this will be the takeaway for most. They promise bigger and better things for next year's off-road trail but I am not sure how many people are going to want to pony up for it again.

We got turned away at the bar since we didn't have our bronco specific glasses on us. Had to walk back to the parking lot to fetch the special glass to get some wine.

Wine was good though.
Scleary1212
Scleary1212
@Rspayde wait we got free wine if we used our glass? I guess that's one of the perks I missed out on.
Rspayde

@Scleary1212 no free wine there was just one bartender (at least) that refused to serve us without the special glasses.
MyATV
MyATV
I felt like they over-promised and under-delivered.
1) Two unisex bathrooms aren't enough for the hundreds of guests who were there (counting those with the Bronco event as well as others).
2) They advertised "food trucks". That implies multiple cuisines. We had one choice: Mexican. And they could not keep up with demand. No one likes waiting in a 20+ minute line to place their order, then wait another 10+ minutes for their order to be ready. On a hot day. (I looked back at their Jeeps in the Vines, and it looks like they had smoked BBQ, plus local beers.)
3) The vendor lineup seemed a bit weak. Not counting the sponsors (Kaya Vineyards and Billy H. Ford), you're left with maybe a half-dozen vendors. (Again, I looked back at the Jeeps in the Vines, and they listed over 2 dozen vendors.)
4) Like others, I was told by bartender that those of us with the Bronco event had to use our Bronco wine glass to get wine. Someone told me they had same issue, and just told the bartender their glass was broken in order to be served. I ended up going to other bartenders and simply told them I wasn't with the Bronco group (even though I had event wristband and wearing Bronco T-shirt). Not very welcoming.
5) The mostly manmade obstacle course was 'okay'. Not worth the $40. Neither was the $25 VIP parking.
Oh, yeah, and the event T-shirts Kaya Vineyards was selling went up from $30 at the start of the event to $35 at some point. Pretty shady.
In the end, it wasn't worth the $97 I paid ($85 + taxes & fees). It sounds to me like the Jeeps in the Vines was a better planned & executed event. I understand they've been doing that one for 8 years and this is their 1st one for Broncos, but all they had to do was duplicate the Jeeps event for the Broncos. Simple.

Anyone in here have a Braptor? I'm currently running a 4Door OBX non-sas that has really done more than I thought it could in terms of offroading. However, I've definitely realized I want to update the off-road abilities of my daily driver and am torn between a WT and Braptor. The Braptor is overpriced IMO at $100,00 but has all the bells and whistles. I've seen people talk about getting great deals on them down near $70k which has peaked my interest again in them. My main goal is to have overkill offroading abilities so I limit the chance I really ruin my daily-driver.

I'm mostly concerned about the extra width of the Raptor. I've taken a couple very tight trails in my OBX which turned out to be really fun. Can anyone speak to the draw backs of the Raptor over the WT when wheeling down here in the South East?

@vrtical has a mean braptor setup and has done a lot of offroading in GA and TN.

Depending on what you like to do I'm personally in favor of building up the capability on a badlands over anything else
MadMan4BamaNATL
MadMan4BamaNATL
@Gene Dios Yep, @vrtical is the best example around these parts of a true Braptor wheeler for sure. He lives near Windrock and hits those trails regularly and I ran Beasley Knob with him last May. He'll send it, but not crazy with it. His rig also isn't banged to hell either because he wheels smart, not an ego off-roader. So, if you take your time even on tight trails you can avoid the worst of it most of the time. If the Braptor were a 2 Door, I'd have one in a heartbeat wide and all and wouldn't care.
vrtical
vrtical
@MadMan4BamaNATL Andrew Sea from the NC group runs 40s on his and he's pretty hardcore and knows what he's doing. He's running F150 raptor wheels so he's a bit less then me. Width is an issue sometimes but it's a very small percentage. Most of the big parks or out west most built rigs are just as wide. If you upgrade to one of the full pro suspension setups and run some good offset your just as wide as me or close. I am 3" over OEM width. I am 88.3" wide.
MadMan4BamaNATL
MadMan4BamaNATL
@vrtical Wow, now that’s wide! I totally give the wide wheelers edge on stability. Wranglers are narrow and sometimes pay a price for that on some obstacles. An example here in Georgia would be the deep breaks or ruts on Old Bucktown Road. I’m good on it with a short wheelbase, but thankful for being a tad wider as well. In a Braptor on 37s, I’d just walk it without even thinking about it. PNW and some trails I’ve run you’d hate, like Auger Hole Road on the NC, SC border around Lake Johassee (spelling). I picked up pin stripes due to overgrowth, but just don’t care much about them or the rock chips from my tires. With Braptor prices, I can see guys being sensitive in the darker colors for sure. So, choosing the best line may take some more thought on the tight trails and of course, going slower. Need to connect with Andrew to one day watch him in action!
cake
@vrtical 3" doesn't seem as bad as I thought. Did you swap out your wheels? Everything I looked at online was saying over ~10" in additional width.
vrtical
vrtical
@cake I run a 0 offset wheel so each side is 1.5" out on top of OEM width so its more like 13" wider
DREWR13
DREWR13
Braptors are cool but like everyone is saying the width is just a big issue for me. I'm on 37's in my Badlands and still considerably narrower than the Braptors. Im also a wash out floor kinda guy so the interior is only minor differences compared to a loaded out Badlands. Also, Braptors are just too expensive IMO. No way it should cost over 90k
Hey Y'all!
Could anyone recommend some trail recommendations following a downhill (east to west) run of Nimblewill Gap? Anywhere on the west side of Chattahoochee NF would be great. I'm in a non-sas OBX 4Door so nothing to insane if possible, I'm just trying to show a out of town buddy some of what we've got down here. I've got armor but currently no lift because I'm debating doing a big upgrade to a WT or Raptor.

You can run most of the trails in reverse in that trail network since they’re mostly fire roads. Winding Stair Gap in reverse is sort of East to West. Besides that, further north is the trail network of the Georgia Traverse which runs East to West or inverted. Some of those trails can have a few interesting area, but nothing that at least 33” tires can’t handle. Only places where a lift would be desired are the OHV areas in my opinion, but I have a a Squatch 2Dr with good clearance. Remember that you can always either take a bypass or get your buddy to spot a safer line if things start to look interesting. Just air down to avoid getting a flat if you have a compressor.

Although college football season is upon us (FINALLY!) the bug to hit trails once more has me thinking about Labor Day weekend, that Sunday is my target to hitting Grassy Gap trail and the connected network. Technically, you can do close to 40 off-road miles without seeing any pavement. Grassy connects up with Coopers Gap trail and together that’s around 15 miles. Most of the network is rather easy if you have at least 33s, but 2 sections have a few fun spots and water to cross, but nothing deep. Grassy Gap is rated as a “3” and Cooper is a “1”. it’s all pretty forest at elevation and basically in Dahlonega. This would be fun for 4-7 Broncos to enjoy the day so let me know if any interest.
