I fall somewhere in between extremes. I have typically changed my transmissions at 50-60K and diffs, x-fer case brake fluid, power steering etc.. at 80-110K. Since I use the Bronco off Road and in wet environments more than past vehicles, I am moving everything up. Transmission and transfer case now (40K) and probably do the diffs before the September Drummond Island trip. I use synthetic in the motor, but generally use whatever the factory calls for in the transmission and transfer case. That's just the old man in me, I used to see vehicles come in for transmission flush and fills and invariably the transmission would start slipping or a leak would appear from a seal with the change to synthetic. Seals aren't cork very often these days, synthetic oils have properties to "expand" the seals in some cases and my transmission isn't 10 years old with 150K, trying to revive it (I assume most flush and fills were already having problems when they came in). I will ask the dealer about the transfer case and transmission, if there is a synthetic, recommended Motorcraft synthetic, I might pony up :) BTW, I never completely empty the transmission,. Drop the pan, pull the filter, replace the "lost" fluid (maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of the total capacity. Another old school philosophy that has treated me well over the years.

Just a reminder- get your registration in for Bronco the Mac. We talked to St. Ignace Friday and we are already ahead of last years registration numbers. There will be the bridge crossing, trail rides, scavenger hunts and the Saturday evening Bronco parade with fireworks added this year. We will post trail ride registration as we get closer to the event. https://stignace.com/event/bronco-the-mac/

@Mattwings I know RC sells towing brackets, would it just be those or are there specific ones needed to go from stock to modular without cutting the tow hooks? Appreciate the help!

There are a few posts on this forum about it, there are several brackets that make up the assembly, just make sure the seller has it all together (need to reference the pars diagram or on of those older posts to get the details.

Just FYI, we have the old (and new again) better forum software up and running. Jake F got a new server and is able to run the more advanced software. Hopefully we get people back in and using it for MIBC related content! https://forums.michiganbroncos.club/latest

Anyone planning a trip to the upper peninsula next year (my apologies, I am not super active in the Michigan group and haven't joined any meet ups yet).

I went to school at Michigan Tech and try to make my way up there every other year or so, but that's also split between summer, fall and winter. Been around quite a bit, but always looking for new things to check out and explore, especially challenges!

We are headed up to the Munising area around July 4th. We go every year, but this will be the first time going with an off-road vehicle. We plan on hitting Copper Harbor and the Porcupine Mountains while we are there. Seems there are some cool trails up in Copper Harbor, but nothing too challenging. If you look up High Rock Bay on YouTube, there are a few examples of the trail leading up to great scenic views and camp areas.

@SQUA7CH I’m running that the end of July. Wife and I are dealing the badger across to Manitowoc then running 7hr Plane crash route from Crandon, Wi, running up to the harbor then back down to Hancock for the weekend.

@Gr8Hortoni I saw something about that 7hr Plane Crash Route on the Gaia App I installed the other day. Seems like it could be fun. The wife doesn't want to "get into anything" until she has gone through the Off-Rodeo. LOL! I will have to look up the badger route. If you get a chance, I highly recommend stopping at the Porkies, specifically finding Presque Isle Falls. They are absolutely stunning. Never seen anything like it in my life. For a more relaxed drive, Adams Trail AKA H-58 running from Munising over to Grand Marias is absolutely gorgeous. Fresh black top for miles and miles. Truly stunning forest ride.

I’m headed up with some fam and friends to Marquette for the Lake Superior Performance Rally this October 11-12. Will be doing some wheeling up there that weekend. Perfect time for leaves 🍁, if not a little late, but still should be a great time! Would love to meet up with anyone willing to go.

Michigan Bronco Club 2024 Ballot
Thank you to those who completed the interest form, making the ballot easier to construct.

Elections will close December 17th. All members, registered across any of the formats, have 1 vote per position for 2024 Officers and Committee positions. If we have a full, diverse group of leaders, it will make the work easier and the club better! Thank you for your interest and participation!

If you did not complete the interest form to get your name on the ballot and are interested in filling a role, please use the "Other" option to write your name in or nominate someone. We are in need of a Treasurer! @Svanhildr is holding two spots, which is a lot to ask for volunteers! As a reminder, we are a registered non-profit. No one makes $.01 from the club, it's just to build a community around our Broncos and provide a group to get out and have fun with! NOTE: If you nominate someone, the position will only go to them if they accept the nomination.

We try and get information out here and on the club website/forums. I am not a Facebook fan either, but it’s where people go and are comfortable (no idea why). We don’t even try to keep an email list anymore, 20% of people think that’s a security risk or something else sinister I guess. IMO Facebook is sinister from the start.

I want to welcome the 2024 Michigan Bronco Club Leadership Team! We have almost half of the group from the West side of MI, so that will help continue to spread events across the state. As a reminder, the club is a registered non-profit, 100% volunteer group. We are all members, volunteering to organize and grow the group, for everyone's enjoyment. Thanks to all the volunteers in 2023 and here's to another fun year with our Broncos!

I test drove both and honestly preferred the auto with 2.3. Felt like a better pairing for the motor.

I have a 2.3/10spd 2 door base non-sas. I added 33” M/Ts the day I picked it up. Has been great to drive and the powertrain/drivetrain seem to handle it very well on-road and in mild off-roading. I’ve been really impressed what can be done with open diffs and a decent set of tires.

I wanted my wife to be able to drive this thing for fun and a manual is a nonstarter for her. I begrudgingly ordered the auto and now I’m glad I did. It’s smooth, finds the right gear and stays there without hunting. Plus, trail turn assist is helpful on sandy/loose trails with tight spots. Like in the northern Michigan woods where I wheel.

@GPPBronco my wife enjoys a manual almost as much as I do, so that wasn’t an issue here. She liked it quite a bit on our test drive today so it’s not the worst thing in the world.

I’m looking forward to trying out the TTA, I be gotten into some pretty tight spots and had to multi point turn, I’m interested to see how well it works.

I swapped my “33s” for “35s” from a stock SQ Bronco that I got from another club member. I like the look of the wider tires and narrow flares, but it may make too big of a mess to be practical.
I used-
Stock Badlands 8” wide wheels.
SKS 1.5” spacers
Modified stock mount and rubber snubbers, trimmed .6”

So far they seem a bit quieter and drive a bit better than the KO2s.

I am happy with the "35s". I think the Goodyears are very light compared to most other 35s, so some of what I might expect with a "true" 35' or definitely a 37 being heavy and harder to control have not been occurred so far. Obviously lots of people have these tires on, so nothing new, but it was interesting to evaluate the difference back to back form 33s to 35s. I could tell in just a brief off road trip that the ground clearance is noticeably better. It's just how it works, 35s are the common "big tire" on the trail now (used to be 33s) so often I was dragging my skids on the 33s, the 35s clear more obstacles and ruts for sure. The 33s are already spoken for. It was a cascade of upgrades from 3 different members 37s-35s-33s :)
Mattwings
Mattwings
BTW, I didn't notice who responded, Jake F is getting the 33s, so he is going to have an easier time on the trail now too! If I was buying tires myself (instead of getting take offs for "free") I would probably have gone with the 35x11.50x17 Toyo Open Country- Load Range C. You save yourself the wheel spacers or new wheels and get just a touch more ground clearance. @Svanhildr has that setup on ger Black Diamond and I really like how they look and perform.

@Mattwings thanks. This is Brian and will be left as the only one from the terrain park on DI with 33s. Haha. I'm actually in the process of shopping shocks and tires for next year. Could have gotten away with smaller spacers? Also considering Chrystals route.
Mattwings
Mattwings
You can use 1” spacers (the specific measurements come in at .6” needed, but won’t give enough for a true 35x12.50. I wanted to give myself the flexibility. I think the 35x11.50 is really the best option overall, it just limits tire options somewhat. Yeah, I knew who you were once I looked at who wrote the comment 😀

Hey, I haven't posted in a while (been swamped with the day job and the photography) but loving the Bronco even though it is just a daily driver at this point in time.

The only mods that I have done to this point are adding a Broaddict Hood Deflector to it as well as my BYOD Rail from Archtype Racing, the Ford aftermarket mirror mounted Pod lights and the towing hitch. Oh yeah, I did add paracord grab handles to the interior.

Lots of milage with the photo business but haven't had an issue yet.
