West Texas Broncos

Welcome! This group was created to help members in West Texas and members taking delivery in West Texas organize and meet other Bronco owners for meets and trail days! We are planning, at this time, trips mainly to Big Bend National Park.

Greetings,

hey I have decided that I don’t like this Bronco storage unit that came with my Bronco. I’m willing to sell for $500 or maybe trade for some parts/labor. I took some quick pictures because it was cold as shit but I can grab more if desired. Thank you.

Hello,
How is everyone?

I'm looking to join a group that is actively seeking adventures. I'm new to off-roading, but feel free to reach out if you would like to get together to do some trail riding.

San Angelo here, I drive through Midland/Odessa at least once a week. I occasionally see another 2dr hard top driving between here and there, cactus grey, I think? Starting to see several here in town, all but one are 4dr soft tops. If you ever get down this way, we've got a decent little bit of rock crawling and hill climb trails that'll last an afternoon or so. Free to use with an OHV sticker, though I've never seen anyone enforcing that. Most of the fun looking lines are too hardcore for my brand new paint and straight sheetmetal LOL

My son is at school down there so that might be a good place to go. Of course I’m like you I don’t want to bang my bronco up

LOL...maybe? My business is extremely sporadic so I can't really plan anything that far ahead. But I'm usually not doing much of anything around that time and I don't have a lot of commitments, so there's a good chance I'll be free. I'll put it on my phone and let you know if anything comes up in the meantime.

I need to do some more research on the park itself, but it seems like there's plenty to do for all levels. What were you thinking of as far as trail difficulty? I have faith that my Bronco with 35's and lockers could make it up a lot of really technical and difficult trails, it's still too pretty to risk body damage for the time being (I'd imagine most Bronco owners feel the same lol). I've got a winch, an ARB compressor, and plenty of recovery gear. I'll probably have the 3.0 rack installed by then and I might have 37-38" tires at that point. All I'm really missing at this point are frame mounted sliders and a full set of skids before I'm comfortable with gnarly trails.

For anyone else looking, here's the website:

I may or may not have my winch and bumper by then i think ill wait on lifts and bigger tires until at least next year at the earliest i want to finish getting upgraded sliders and skids this year but im in the same mindset im sure it can handle plenty im interested in some difficulty and technical trails but dont wanna damage the body or break anything major

Ive also got the arb compressor installed and some recovery gear not sure if ill have my winch and bumper in by then depends on taxes and bonus season

I believe there's a few guys from El Paso and the surrounding area. I'm a few hours away to the east. We should hit a few trails up in that area one of these days...

@Jose_fd_ssm That's cool, I didn't know there was an offroad park up there. What kind of trails do they have, are there any camping spots? Some other places in our area off the top of my head, there's El Paso, with a bunch of fast desert trails and sand in the area, while Las Cruces just on the other side has some fun rocks. Wolf Caves/Katemcy Rocks by Mason is like a mini Moab, and there's also a spot south of Sonora called Escondido Draw with some pretty technical rocks as well. Used to be some good trails around Longhorn Ranch Motel by Study Butte, years ago there was an event called the Big Bend Bash, not sure if they're still doing offroad stuff today though but it would be a great spot to go if they did. There's a few other places in Texas but they're more toward San Antonio and Dallas, and a few spots between Lubbock and El Paso like Roswell/Carlsbad with a couple of decent OHV areas.

What is a New Mexican doing in “West Texas Bronco’s” well I am SE NM, Artesia. Really feel more West TX, than NM here, Lubbock & El Paso is closer than Albquerque. Here if we have a medical problem worse than a cold, we go to Lubbock. We shop in Lubbock & El Paso. I think most of us here wish Texas would annex us

Had a good time down in BBNP and BBRSP.
I’ll make a big picture dump/trip summary in the forums, but figured I’d drop a few here too.
Loved the area, takes dang near forever to get there, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Blank page.
I've been looking at maps and aerial maps/satellite maps, checking it out in Big Bend.
Fully plan on driving down there when we get ours at Sewell.
Best I can tell maybe drive:
down to Terlingua area, over towards Chios Basin visitor center.
Rte 12 over to Glen Springs RD.
From here it looks like desert running/some 4WD.
Glen Springs to Black Gap, headed SE.
At the end of Black Gap there is a no-named road in yellow on the map (in the link below) that goes on a little more SE before turning E-NE. This eventually rejoins Rte 12.
It looks to be about a 24 mile side-trip from when you exit Rte 12 until you get back to it.

Any and all insight is appreciated.
Would love to see the sunset there, try and figure out a place to stay the night that is decent.

Better options/ trips there in BB?
Either heading west from there and up the west coast or back across TX to Nacodoches area to see family before heading back to NC.

If you haven’t driven a Bronc yet, I highly recommend it. They really are a different animal. I may have gone gladiator if I hadn’t driven one with the soft top.
Good luck, brother.

Thanks. I drove them both. WT was better in every way.
So much so that I switched my order to soft top when I got home and it scheduled last week for Oct. 4 week.

It is shipped, looks like we will take delivery early Thanksgiving week, be in BB park enjoying the roads/trails.
Definitely looking at Black Gap road, Old Ore road, River road.
Also definitely going to take in some star gazing.
Issue now is to find a room for the night anywhere even remotely close.
May have to drive a couple hours away or (gasp) camp in-desert for the night.

Has anyone taken a delivery in Texas yet? I’m trying to figure out what the exact rail route is from MAP to West Texas. My dealer was able to send me my railcar number. My Bronco started off in Michigan, and is in Ohio now. Anyone have a map of the rail routes it’s gonna travel?
