So after a bit more investigation and just running my fingernail / hand across the area, I realized they had dented the door as well (not a visible dent, but one you can feel) so I've decided to just let insurance handle it and get it done right.
Definitely will be going slow and careful.
On the other hand, if I muck it up, it's only on the door, so I could just pop the door off, drop it off to be repainted and pick it up when finished :D
Currently looking at either RCI or MetalTech 4x4 for the 2 door sliders...both look to provide good protection against this in the future (if it was some blind parking lot driver) and are frame mounted.
