I posted to this thread like 3 years ago back when I went to 37's, went through the typical troubleshooting of finding the right tire size and getting the right module reset (had an older version of forscan then too).
Fast forward to now, I finally got regeared (from 4.7's to 5.38's) after 3...
I've been procrastinating (life is busy) but ever since @GI_Jo_Nathan added a riv-nut (see below) to his kit I thought I ought to add that as a baseline feature to the kit for folks to have the option to modify their skidplate in more ways. I still think you are perfectly fine to lop off the LH...
Bear in mind that this hardware is sized for the specific drop and spacers used in my kit. If another kit does not use a spacer, or same type of spacing strategy at the rear of the diff you may not want to use this hardware.
There are different ways to "drop" the differential. If you move it straight down, you don't want the spacer between the rear bushing bracket and housing, but you do need to relocate the rear attachment to be lower (bushing dog-bone to frame). This can be a pain since there is a weld nut there...
Two actually, at the time of the trip we had a 2 1/2 yr old and a 1 yr old. (just welcomed our number 3 this October)
Trip went very well overall, start em young with the camping and they'll love it!
Consider it a buffer state protecting you from an international border with the commies ;)
In all seriousness, "we" got the upper peninsula as part of a trade deal with Ohio and the Fed, and I think that happened before Wisconsin was officially a state
Yea, ive definitely done the winch line in window approach. And if it was only this stretch I probably would have tried it. But it was shaping up to be where this stretch was a dime a dozen for over a mile. Being that it was already 12pm and the girls were getting grouchy, I bailed.
It has a few names, but most commonly the Northwestern Road or Northwestern Trail. You can find it easily on onX as well.
As for Keystone, mostly very easy with two mud holes. I didn't attempt the full length of the second hole since there was an easy bypass and I didn't want to get in that...
Another neat area to check out is the Fiborn Karst Preserve. In the Eastern/Central part of the UP, it is an old, abandoned Limestone Quarry. It is part of the same rock formation that makes up Drummond Island, Mackinaw Island and Wisconsin's Door Peninsula. Very neat area, technically no...
Maybe not 14Mile point, but don't let the rest fool you, you could do most anything in the Keweenaw and Huron Mountains with decent tires, ground clearance and 4x4 and its well worth it as a Michigander to check out the full extent of the UP (particularly west of Munising)
Here is a rough outline of the route (yellow).
The intended highlight of the trip (aside from the cliff) was to be 14 Mile Point Lighthouse(red). I found out about this from an older alumni who was on the 4x4 club like 40 years ago.
Apparently, that used to be a favorite. I could hardly find...
In the video you can see that there was one really deep section I opted to go around. I probably could have made it with lockers on, but just really didnt feel like taking the chance of getting out in the middle of a nasty water/mud hole to pull winch. Especially as it was nearing the end of the...
A little late to post (procrastinator). Had an awesome trip in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula early this summer 2025.
You can get a taste of the off-roading we did here:
Yooper Overland 2025
I've spent quite a bit of time up here over the years (MTU grad) but was still able to find some...
Anyone have experience using something lighter like WD-40 or similar? Obviously it wont last as long, but my worry (from some reading) about the thicker "better" stuff is that over the long haul it may build up internally an interrupt or even block proper drainage in the frame. Maybe you could...
