As a Wrangler driver, I'm glad to see Broncos out and about. The competition between the two manufacturers can only keep both vehicles on the path to improvements. I read posts on the Wrangler forums slagging on the new Broncos, but that won't be me.
Two weeks ago in Moab, I ran into a Bronco Off Roadeo group on Dome Plateau trail. First time I'd seen Broncos in the wild. Good group of folks and they were enjoying the outing.
I couldn't wait for 12 - 18 months for a Bronco. I got impatient and got a Wrangler. They still talked to me.
Did some level 5 and 6 trails back in the day with my '86 Toyota pickup. Could have gone more extreme, but was usually alone, so didn't want to chance getting stuck miles from pavement. But I have to say, that little Toyota with 31" tires and open differentials was a very capable off roader.
For at least a couple of months now, I've been very enthusiastic about putting in an order for a Bronco. Went to the dealer on Saturday and they connected with some kid who'd only worked there a couple of weeks and didn't even know the names of his coworkers. He also couldn't work the build and...
I was going back and forth between BB, BD and BL. I've finally figured I'll Squatch a 2.3 2dr BB and add the Mid Pkg.
Only thing is, I'm still not decided, because I'm giving serious consideration to a Wrangler Rubicon. But those Squatch 35s look very good and give a nice boost to ground...
1) Drive it to a steakhouse for a good dinner.
2) Smile a lot
3) Give it a good coat of hard wax.
4) Smile some more
5) Call up my buddies with their huge Ford/Dodge/Chevy crew cab 4WDs and say, "Let's take 'em to the desert."
If my wallet can take it:
Badlands 2dr, Antimatter Blue
Headliner
Optional wheels
10spd automatic (I'd prefer the manual, but I'm married) ;)
If I can't afford the BL, I'll go for the BD with the same options.
30 years ago I took my '86 Toyota 4WD pickup on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands Natl Park. No rock crawling, but some hairpin turns with deep drop-offs as you ascend/descend the cliffs along the river. Wouldn't want to try it in a vehicle much larger than that mini-truck.
