So if a Bronco makes a return will it be competing directly against something like the Wrangler? Seems the Wrangler has had its segment all to itself with no real competitors. I think it's time we steal some of Jeep's lunch :D

With truck sales blazing and hitting all time highs I bet the next truck segment everyone tries to move into will be small trucks. Wrangler's in that segment so makes sense if Bronco comes out and competes with it directly.

There is a big gap left with the departure of the FJ Cruiser and doubtful future of the Xterra. You know ONE of these automakers is going to capitalize on it otherwise they are wasting a golden opportunity. What else is there to compete with Jeep besides this possible GMC model and a Ford Bronco revival? There really isn't anything else worth mentioning.

I honestly can't believe that automakers would leave such a huge marketing opportunity go to waste. It doesn't matter who competes with Jeep, but they better make sure tthe car focuses on off-road capabilities more than on-road. Jeep sells a lot of cars because of this, even with significant issues with reliability, etc.

The correct vehicle to compete with them would have to have solid axles front and rear, manual transmission option with an old style "granny gear", selectable 2wd hi/low range along with 4 hi/low, fit 33 inch tires stock, have a 200 - 250 hp/ 300 - 400 lbs-ft of torque diesel available and NOT be overly complicated with electronic garbage.

The 6th gen Bronco needs to be Bronco II sized to compete with the Jeep Wrangler. If they oversize it it'll just be a 2 door Expedition and will be a sales flop I think. Don't half ass this thing. If you're gonna try to steal Jeep Wrangler sales, then make it compete directly with it -- similar size, similar ruggedness, similar uniqueness.

The very first spy photos will tell us what size it is. I'm hoping it's in between the Bronco II and full size Bronco size. And I hope it's all angular and tough looking like the concept Ford showed in 2004.

I'm wondering if Ford had plans to bring back a Bronco II sized version since it previewed it in the '04 concept. The trend definitely has been more towards larger sport utility vehicles.

Did they release dimensions of the 2004 concept? How do we know it was Bronco II sized and not more like the full sized Bronco? I can't tell just from the photos.

I don't see any reason for the new Bronco to not be a Jeep Wrangler competitor. Ford made around 9.4 Billion in North America in the last FY. One way for Ford to increase their revenues within the next few years is attacking Jeep as they have a large hardcore following in NA.

The Jeep Wrangler is the only North American car I can think of with no direct competitor. It makes buttloads of cash for Fiat Chrysler and they can't make enough to keep up with the demand. Ford would be dumb not to go after this cashcow especially when it has this already famous nameplate to use, not to mention the original Bronco competed directly with the CJ, predecessor to the Jeep Wrangler.

Completely agree. It's also one of the few market segments that Ford can attack to increase their revenue. It's rather insane that all other car manufacturers has allow Fiat Chrysler to have a monopoly here.

If Ford knows what's good for it they'll resurrect the Bronco. That the Jeep Wrangler has such a loyal following despite questionable reliability shows the Bronco should be able to get in on the action as long as it's well built, performs well (on and off-road) and looks the part of a true utility vehicle and not a soft looking soccer mom SUV.

Keep its size reasonable (not a dressed up F-150) and its price about the same as the Wrangler and it'll sell.

I know lots of people probably want the Bronco to be sized like a 2-door wrangler but I think it'll be be bigger. Bronco will be based on the global Ranger platform which is sized like an F-150 from late 90's / early 2000's so it won't be a small car. So it's something like between a Wrangler 2 door and a current F-150 size, which I think will be fine - not too big or small
