Fuel smell in cabin…extreme heat in AZ…HELP

Oh no…..bummer. I can’t get 20 gallons in mine even when “50 miles left to empty” notification is on. Sorry to hear your still experiencing the smell.

I doubt you overfilled it unless you topped it off again. If you stopped when it kicked off I’m sure it’s not from overfilling. Evap may be toast unfortunately.

If I were still under warranty I would probably just take it to dealer for strong fuel smell and see what they say. I wouldn’t mention anything about topping off. Just concerned about fuel smell.

I don’t think it’s a common thing. I didn’t see any YouTube videos on it for the Bronco.

The other possible alternative might be a stuck purge valve but that usually also causes hard starting, rough running, and/or a check engine light. Unfortunately neither the purge valve nor the canister are covered by the 8 year/80,000 mile emissions warranty.

I'd not fill up before letting it sit or idle in the heat for any extended period, keep a reduced amount of fuel in it (no more than 3/4 full) and see if the strong fuel fumes/ smell goes away and doesn't return. Also fill up beginning a driving day, not ending one. 20 gallons in a 20.8 gallon tank will expand quite a bit in that kind of heat.
