Probably good for off-road, but might be a little rough on the rod at highway speeds. When I go fishing by myself I put my 9 foot rod tip up between the seats and into the passenger footwell. Fits with only a slight bend at the tip and my Bronco is a two door.

I could only get the rod holder attached to the trail sight by leaving out the washers. Otherwise, the fasteners don't reach each other's threads. @FourHorses did you have this issue? I found this product on Amazon, and it's no longer on their website. Wondering if that has anything to do with it? Also, is there a good solution for the strings with metal aglets?

I put these on last night (hour-plus install time due to trial-and-error-ing through the inadequate hardware) and made about a 30 minute trip with surf rods. I was nervous the entire ride. One, that the holder was going to work itself loose due to the aforementioned hardware and the flexing at highway speed. And two, that the strings were going to come loose and ding up my fender. You can see in the OP photos how they drape down - the aglets are pretty stout metal. I'm planning to make a two hour-ish drive to the beach for surf fishing Friday - not with this setup! Electrical tape and proper fasteners first...not what I expected, unfortunately.

No, I did not have that issue. Mine were the KR off-road branded holders. Bolts were plenty long to thread into the factory nut on the trail sight. They didn’t even have the strings. They simply pressured against the reel mount. No issues at speed.

Gotcha. Mine are exactly the ones in the OP, the 4 rod kit.
