The Ford bronco was originally built to complete against Jeep and international scout . So why not do it again bronco did it better then the cj5 cj6 or jeepster back then ,time to do it again . ..

Why did Bronco stop being competitive against the Jeep? It seems like Ford abandoned that segment while Jeep completely took off. Should have just copied the formula that was making Jeep successful.

In 1978 the bronco went more into a family friendly type suv. It became larger to carry more people comfortably and had stepped away from a utility vehicle. Jeep was not messing with the cj5 or 7 but the Cherokee wagon . The problem was Ford didn't have a lineup of vehicle and the Explorer didn't come till years later .

I know lots of people probably want the Bronco to be sized like a 2-door wrangler but I think it'll be be bigger. Bronco will be based on the global Ranger platform which is sized like an F-150 from late 90's / early 2000's so it won't be a small car. So it's something like between a Wrangler 2 door and a current F-150 size, which I think will be fine - not too big or small
The problem with basing it on that platform is that it is a unibody platform. It will not be taken as a serious off-road vehicle in that case. Since the rumor has it that it will be produced at the same plant as the new north American Ranger. This platform should be a body on frame design if it wishes to compete with the new offerings from Chevrolet and GMC. I hope the size is smaller than you are predicting.

Ford has or will have the Raptor for the large off road portion of the market. The Bronco needs to be smaller to remain true to it's roots.

Heck even Hyundai is teasing a uni-body vehicle with a small bed. The market for such a vehicle is there but I wouldn't call it a Bronco.

The problem is Ford already showed a Bronco concept a decade ago that had smaller dimensions closer to the Bronco roots, but part of the reason it didn't get built was many people felt it should've been closer to the '76 full sized Bronco instead. That and all the gadgetry like computer controlled AWD felt like a bastardized Bronco compared to the pretty no frills Wrangler and CJ.

I'd be OK with a Bronco that bridges the size between the FSB and Bronco II.

Always wondered by they never built a production Bronco off the 2004 concept. Usually when a co brings a realistic concept like that out they're at least considering building it, unless public reception isn't good, which seems to be the case with the 04 concept.

So if Ford learned any lesson from that concept and its reception that means we might be seeing a 2020 Ford Bronco that's '76 sized and with honest genuine mechanical utility without being technology filled. Fingers crossed! :)

Ford needs to make a Bronco that can really compete with the Jeep Wrangler. The only way they will do that is with a solid front axle, 5.0 Coyote, and a removable top. A new Bronco that is nothing but another crossover SUV won't do it.

Yea but Jeep can keep the unreliability ;) Really think that if Ford is going to jump back into this segment they won't hold back. They should know that anything but a true trail-ready off-road SUV that also has cool looks won't cut it against the 1000 pound gorilla that is Jeep in its segment.

Read somewhere that the Wrangler line is worth $7 billion in annual revenue for Fiat Chrysler! If that's not enough motivation for Ford to get the Bronco right I don't know what is!

The 1G is your happy medium.
My opinion, I like the size of the 1G.
I had a FS Blazer while my buddies had 1G broncos (which is how I caught the Bronco bug) , one of the girlfriends had a CJ7 that I drove a few times also.
I'd bet that with modern design, we'd all be surprised what they could do with the dimensions of a 1st gen.

Consider if they take the same width and then make a 4 door , it's actually pretty damn big.

No matter how you twist and turn it, they are going to have to make a 4 door to compete with the 4 door Jeeps. They out sell the 2 doors .... and that is the bottom line, sales.

I posted the info below in another thread here. I thought it might pertain to the discussion above regarding the size of the alleged new Bronco.
I like the size of the 1G and due to the tale of the tape below, do not believe they can go much bigger with out losing the nimble trail-ability that soo many are claiming to want.

What the intended goal seems to be is a Jeep killer, much like the 1G Bronos were, slightly bigger, very utilitarian in their base form. I'm not certain they can get much bigger than the Wranglers though. Per very little research, the Wrangler is already bigger than the 1G Bronco.
So who knows, it's all speculation at this point.
