The twin Badlands made their way through Omaha last week. These are basically identical except for the color and MGV vs Leather, I believe. Kinda late posting this (and I’m sure we’ve all seen their pictures a thousand times by now) but I figured I’d share my photos and thoughts on them after finally getting up close and personal.
Btw this is my first post here but I’ve been a lurker since last summer. Switching to a Bronco from an FJ Cruiser, here’s my build:
Wed July 15 2020 2:15am reservation (Black 4dr Big Bend)
Converted to order March 17 to:
4dr Badlands
OxWhite (switched from Cactus Gray ) 2.7L
MIC
Lux
Black MGV
I also have these exact wheels picked out so I was even more excited to see them in person. Like most of us I’ve been going stir crazy waiting for an order update. Honestly, I had been looking at so many pictures and vids that I started overthinking everything and started to question things like the quality of interior, options I picked out, etc. I thought the pictures started to make the interior look like the hollow, flimsy plastic like what’s inside my FJ which made me question the price tag. Plus, I’ve never bought a vehicle from factory like this so I’ve been getting some anxiety and buyer's remorse.
Well I can say most of my fears were settled and turned into excitement after feeling just how solid they are. FWIW I’m switching from a 2012 so I’m sure anything 2020+ feels like a substantial upgrade. Every bit of the dash/interior felt secure, tactile, and solid. The switches all had a great mechanical response to them and the rubberized covers felt fantastic. Even the surface of the cargo bay platform had a really nice thick rubbery quality to it, much nicer than the easily scratchable plastic in my FJ. Side note: I think I read that the wiper wiring/hose in the back of the these demos (see picture) won’t be in the soft top models once they’re released.
I was also questioning my decision of MGV over Leather but I have to say after sitting in both of these for a while the MGV was so much more comfortable. The leather seems like it will last longer but will be much less comfortable for a long road trip. Of course, it will be nice to have the option to spray down the inside and drain it. I especially like how they added the soft MGV into the little elbow rest on the door panel.
They started both of them up and I could mess around with the electronics. The Touchscreen was responsive, the engine felt smooth at cold idle. (But I couldn’t hear any turbo spool yet) I only played with the stereo for a bit and wanted to hear the B&O system in comparison to my FJ which has the factory upgraded JBL subwoofer package. Disappointingly, I must say with the little time I had, my FJ sounds a little better ...but I’m hoping I’m proved wrong when these come out.
As for the engine bay pictures, I do agree that it looks like a bowl of spaghetti lol. But, that spaghetti all has an actual purpose like others have pointed out compared to the old school clean engine bays which don’t have all of today’s current tech. I’m also a fan of tuners so I tried to get a few shots of the turbos and down piping etc. It will be fun to see what mods we can eventually do to these engines.
I’ll post a couple vids in the comments and if anyone wants to see a little more detail I have a few extra pics I could look through.
I’m defintely much more excited and crossing fingers for a 2021 model!
Edit: Can't believe I forgot to mention the leg room...I'm 6 foot and the driver's felt very spacious with lots of adjustable room. The pictures are of the seat almost all the way forward (tons of leg room in back) versus the front seat all the way back, with just enough leg room. I had been seeing so many pictures with people's knees stuffed into the back of the driver's seat and had been wondering how in the world after reading the dimensions online. They must be much taller or their hips weren't seated all the way upright in the backseat.
