In a bit of dialog with a motorhead friend across the pond we talked about Eruption Green being cribbed off of Mallard Green and it upsetting a lot of folks over here because apparently B6g wanted the paint to look like a single stage acrylic paint.

He simply said "They are all wrong". Turns out he was right, we're all wrong and our US-centric viewpoints had us overlooking the paints used across the pond. The code varies by year, but it seems the production color is either L2, L4 or Y2.

The last car to wear Mallard Green from the factory on a Ford was not a 1970's Bronco. It was used on the production spec Escort Cosworth RS Homologation special vehicles from 1992 through 1996 in very limited numbers.

Without going into too many details nobody on here will care about, here are some pics of Mallard Green which seems quite obviously to have been utilized as inspiration for Eruption Green.

I had the pleasure of being stationed in England from 92-95 and additionally had the pleasure of sporting around in those Cosworth escorts... talk about by the seat of your pants fun. small turbo, roughly 230hp 2litre 4banger, AWD and under 3k lbs... loads of fun for the time (almost 30yrs ago) And those engines could still be tuned.

The green though, not exactly my favorite. Could be just the photo, appears too dark (for my taste)

Thanks for posting Rick!

I can see some resemblance for sure. I'll take that car however I can, it looks amazing. I happen to love the stock wheels way more than other people do as well.

Regardless of what they call it or where it came from I couldn’t be more disappointed with the color. It is hard to find a shade of green I don’t like but they managed. I was hoping they would go with one of the vintage colors like boxwood green :(

so you lost me, putting aside paint codes - was it actually called Mallard Green? Cuz there was one called that, and it actually was used on the Bronco, in the US, and it looks nothing like these. So as usual, I'm confused.

Yes, the paint used on the Escort RS Cosworth was called "Mallard Green".

It is the most recent "Mallard Green" Ford has used.

It's also a fair use as inspiration for Eruption Green. I like the gold undertones to EG quite a bit. Lots of color flop and hopefully a great metallic flake at the macro level.

If you notice how vibrant and emerald the green looks in full sun, this type of paint has a LOT of color flop depending on lighting. Some people want a very consistent shade no matter the light (Antimatter Blue is a great example of a stagnant "color" coming out to be essentially one color), and some people want the more dynamic paint colors that change their personality by lighting.

Super jealous you got to ride in the Cosworths! They were essentially guaranteed class-win cars in their hay day and changed the entire market segment. We were too poor and had total POS cars when living overseas.

You likely won't have to wait long. It seems Bronco paint colors will rotate faster than normal Ford products. This not only makes sense, but has been proven to be a correct strategy by Jeep over the past 30+ years to give little spikes to sales every year.

Not sure how many shades of green are out there which offend. Typically they flop to yellow or blue and this one goes towards gold. Seems like what you're saying is that you wanted the look of a single-stage lacquer paint from the 60's/70's (which will never happen again due to EPA)? Or that you prefer non-metallic paints?

Curious what you think of this shade of green as when it flops, it still stays emerald. And in low-light it turns nearly black.

Yep you are probably right. I think the depth of the green above is nice it is just too dark for me. The rendering below would probably be my fist choice but I don’t know much about paint so I may just need to get over wanting these vintage colors.

I dunno, to my old eyes, that just looks like "golden rod" (ZING!) or baby food puree goldenyellowwhatever.

Was this the green you wanted?

Yeah I get it. When it comes to colors you are never going to make everyone happy. I just found this rendering on here somewhere and saved it because I liked it. I did some research and found this. So maybe it is

I know this would never be a factory color these days because it probably doesn’t appeal to most. I just don’t like having the same thing as everyone else but not enough to pay $6,000 to have a car wrapped. I guess I am less picky then cheap.
