My family and I packed up the 2 door Velocity Blue Black Diamond and made the 4-1/2 hour drive to North Carolina’s Outer Banks this weekend and I’d like to share the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The Good:
My wife and kids agreed the Bronco is surprisingly comfortable on the road compared to our previous Jeep’s. We’re used to traveling light, so no regrets on the two door at all.

This vehicle is a show stopper. Everywhere we go, people want to check it out and talk about it and the comments are 99% positive.

We ran into one other new Bronco on the beach, a 4 door Outer Banks. It was nice to stop and chat with that family and share the stories of what it’s like being unpaid ambassadors for the model out in the wild.

The Bad:
Nothing that hasn’t already been covered. My wife asked why the speakers sound so terrible and my kids complained about the lack of decent cup holders.

The Ugly:
While driving on the beach is awesome, having the AdvanceTrac system crap out both days was not. While chugging along effortlessly in sand mode the dashboard suddenly lit up with a “Service AdvanceTrac”, “Pre-Collision Assist Not Available”, “Hill Descent Control Fault”, and “Drive Mode Not Available”. It did still indicate I was in 4 high and I didn’t get stuck, but it doesn’t inspire confidence to have that happen when you’re fully committed and dependent on the 4 wheel drive system.

Overall, it was a great trip. We had a great time, met some great people with Broncos on order.
Despite the glitches, the Bronco did its job of getting us there and back. I’ll be visiting the dealer tomorrow to discuss the faults.

I hope you like all the pics:

Its really a shame Ford didn't produce any pre-production Broncos to tool around in for 6 months prior to production

The Sunset pic... What are the 2 yellow lines in the sky? Did you put those there?

As a fellow 2dr order holder with kids, I’m wondering if you were able to successfully avoid child protective services intervening for forcing those poor kids to climb in and out of the backseat.

Ha! No CPS intervention.
We spotted a FJ 40 on the beach. So I showed my kids the jump seats in the back, gave them the “back in my day” speech and told them to be thankful for comfort the Bronco offers.

OBX is probably my favorite place to go. Probably 10 years since I have been. The cottage we rented was directly across from the Wright Brothers Memorial on the beach in KDH.

Just curious what part did you drive on?? I know there are different areas you can and can't. Some you need a permit and some you don't.

“back in my day” speech
But 'back in my day', a car wasn't a bucket seat wrapped in an electronics package that continuously threw error codes. The steering wheel was't a control panel; there were only 12 dials/buttons on the dash - not 183. There weren't bells & chimes barking at you with an 'air-quality' alert after you farted.

'Back in my day' has many fond memories.

We were up in Corolla. We did need a permit, but I don’t think you need one in the off season.

A fellow NC’linian here admiring your ride! Mine will be a late 22/early 23 I’m guessing. What part of NC are you from? I’m in the Winston area.
Love the OBX but the southern coast is my stomping grounds (Holden Beach/Oak Island). I also just sold my FJ40 about a month ago. Now the excruciating wait for a bronco is on. I do drive a Jeep gladiator so it’s not all bad!

@flip might be able to help out with the electrical issues. I believe something similar happened to another member here. Either way, definitely let the dealer know about the issues.

I’m in Pinehurst. Although you probably got a nice price, it must not have been easy to let the FJ go. I know we can’t keep all the toys.
My buddy has a Gladiator. They’re great rigs too. Enjoying that will definitely ease the pain of waiting for your Bronco.

Thanks. I saw that, related to a loose ABS sensor. I’m heading to my dealer this morning to check it out. Hopefully that solves it.
