Eric Loeffler does not understand the reason for a manual. These kids just don't get it. It has nothing to do with being OLD FASHIONED. It has to do with being able to control the vehicle much better with a manual. **Sigh***
The new Escape is a car and got away from it's original intent of a small SUV. The Bronco Sport fills a niche, but it may be too small....it is even smaller than the Escape. But it will probably handle 99% of what an everyday 'Merican will throw at it.
They each had a build sheet that traveled along with the vehicle. Options were added along the way according to the sheet. You have some really uniquely configured vehicles...but you also get it the way you want it.
I don't know how they managed to build a 1966 Mustang with over 100 options available (build it how you want), but today they can't manage to configure a 40K+ vehicle the way you want.
Maybe the people back in 66 were just smarter than today...
