Retired LE here. I'd hear remarks like that when I pulled people over on snow Boston days. "Kind of fast for snow, Sir."
"I have four-wheel drive, officer, I can handle it."
"No sir, just because you can get up to speed fast doesn't mean you can brake or turn." And I'd write them the ticket...
I assume you're driving a Badlands SAS? I've found the OEM Goodyears very adequate on a 4DR Badlands SAS for 6-8/10 rockcrawling in Utah and New England. Only needed my winch a few times, knock on wood. My complaint with them has been the rock chucking, and that they grabbed stones which worked...
I have the same problem. The side lights come on when the doors open, good. They'll go off several seconds after I'm driving, as they should, but only in daylight! At night they stay on! Very annoying, but at least they shut off after I shut the car off. Right now I have them disconnected...
@ThesePretzels DM me if you come across a good trail or backroad. I drive a Sas, and have a winch and full recovery gear if you'd like to try something more ambitious. If you have the time and money, you might check northeastadventures for a November outing (cold weather camping). They're...
There's a thread on the other site about deer alert whistles. The consensus there is that they work. Anybody have experience with those things? And how fast do you have to be going for the whistles to generate enough sound?
I didn't get it. Since I was doing what the instructors told me to do (like, following a line over rocks), I figured any mishap would be on them. Just what do you think are the odds for an accident in an instructional situation?
That, I know. I'm not going to disassemble the TRLX. I'm looking for a solution. Ideally, connecting a roof rack-mounted antenna to the Sirius antenna cable.
I have the hardtop and the Trailrax steel/aluminum full-length roofrack, and yes, reception falls off all the time. Doesn't matter if I'm out in the country or city. I'd like to get a separate antenna and mount it on the TRMX, but I gather the antenna cable serves not just Sirius but also GPS...
Turns out I can't make it. If you can't connect on Facebook, DM me and I'll connect you in some way. Judging by the FB post, a stock Badlands should fit in okay.
@ThesePretzels Let me know if you're definitely going. Probably no problem if you just show up. The Class IV road is described as "green" with no problems for a lifted truck, others should manage with spotting. I'm in Boston proper.
Northeast Bronco Nation -- Facebook group -- is having a breakfast and Class IV road excursion (Green-rated) on Sunday November 10, meeting at the Alamo Grill in Brookline NH. Could be just what you're looking for, ThesePretzels. Organizer says a few obstacles and water, but non-Sas trucks...
Peppermint oil is supposed to repel mice. Not sure how you'd apply it to your engine compartment.
Regarding rodent poisons, don't go to the big box stores: you want farm grade, which is usually double the potency of hardware/big-box retailers.
For starters, search Facebook (there are two New England Bronco Facebook groups,) this, and the other site for group activities. Offroading alone is always risky, especially since you're new at this. Consider Jeep clubs, too. Sure, we joke about each others' rigs, but out on a trail there is...
"Turn Signal" -- it sticks out from the left side of the steering column. An option most Bostonians decline.
Seriously: also fog lights, which are mounted in various places, sometimes by the A-pillars or inside a bumper opening. A rule of thumb for them: Amber works best below the headlights...
