I've only been to LV - my thoughts.
LV should be the easiest to to fly into - it's a major hub for Southwest.
LV would definitely have the most non-offroad activities, especially if you stay on The Strip. Football, hockey, concerts, F1, shopping are all within walking distance. If you go, stay...
I went last year - there were two groups of seven, with only one 2-door in each group. Ask/beg your instructor early on (even before you think they are going to split you up). My excuse/rationale was to say I DD a '19 Miata (154" long) and a '15 M235i (175", or slightly longer than a 2-door)...
Maybe you can ask the moderators to rotate your picture 90 degrees counterclockwise - problem solved!
For those who haven't been, yes you spend 90% of the day at less than 5mph (it seems). Yes, you get instruction for each type of obstacle, but there is a considerable amount of time doing...
Per the site:
When finalizing your reservation, you may also select an optional $75 vehicle damage waiver that will limit your financial responsibility to $3,500 if any vehicle damage is incurred during the event.
So if you roll/total the Bronco with insurance, you are only out $75 + $3,500...
I was at the LV one last November. During check-in, they told a few people about their credit (I wasn't one). Also agree if you are spending a large credit, do it in the morning - they ran out of some sizes by lunchtime. Lastly, don't underestimate how much of a difference driving a 4-door is...
Here's my take. You are driving trails you have never seen. It may be the first time you have ever been off roading. You may be driving a different version (e.g. 4-door vs. 2-door, Auto vs. Manual). Not sure why you wouldn't just pay the $75, which is probably less than you will spend on shirts...
Yes, it's possible you might need it if you panic or don't follow instructions. It's also a really small amount on top of the rest of the "free" day - you will likely buy more than that in the gift shop.
If you are worried about some cosmetic pinstriping, try distracting your instructor with a...
Agree that if you drive a 2-door you will be a lot more comfortable in a 2-door if there are lots of trees/obstacles next to the trail like in LV, so ask in advance (or just pee on the door). In LV, there were only 2 out of 14.
Agree with others that LV would have the most to do. Most people agree that after about 4 days in LV, you want to just go home. I'd plan a trip with at least one other activity on The Strip (in the last 2 years I've seen a few concerts, including U2 at The Sphere, a Raiders game (grew up just...
Yes, you are essentially getting a free rental Bronco, but 99.9% positive your credit card insurance stops when you leave your rental car in the Roadeo parking lot. A lot of this goes back to the mid-90s when purchase security and extended protection coverage costs almost put the big card...
Agreed, but in my case with the basic Roadeo, I immediately asked for one of the two 2-doors as the 4-door is much longer for the tight Vegas trails (my other daily drivers are a Miata and M235i, which is actually longer than my Wildtrak) and I was worried about side scrapes on rocks/trees...
They were pretty low key, so I don't think they will care. Would bring your own mount or if you have a passenger, have them outside of the Bronco when you go over steep/technical sections. Since most of the day you are driving 5mph or less (at least in Vegas), don't expect a lot of dazzling...
I was there in November - would imagine those same trails covered in snow would make picking your line much harder. I also bought the photo package and recognized the same locations where the photographer sets up. It's nice that you don't need to worry about getting your own photos.
I was in the same group (blue BMW guy), but I didn't win the smoothest driver award, and agree Mean "Gene" could probably hook you up.
On the subject, my takeaways/surprises in chronological order:
- The road from the highway to the parking is about 1.5 miles, is unpaved, and not great for cars...
