Baja looks like a bolt in, the Foutz has a weld in shock tower, but that includes another mount for a second shock, smoothie or bypass, if you want to add one later..
Oh, I did add a lower control arm lockout on the front end so they can only do the alignment at the upper control arm. Thats isnt an option you have to add, but it does limit the alignment to someone skilled enough to understand long travel. (It was beyond the dealership skillset).
My...
If you are in Phoenix why wouldnt you use Foutz Long travel kit ? They are right in Mesa, and the guy won the Baja multiple times. I used their kit for my 4 door, same width as Baja. Stance and all is killer but the coil springs and shocks have allot to do with final stance. It was helpful...
As I understand it a UCA isn't subject to a ton of stress with 'normal' driving. I think an upgrade is cheap insurance, and it doesnt add a ton of labor if your doing the shocks and coil springs, but no its not totally necessary. Accutune, Icon and Metal Cloak all offer reasonably priced ones too.
They arent that far from you , you can go down there enjoy San Diego for a day or two and pay them to do everything right then and there. These can take a minute to setup but you cant do better without shock tuning or just getting super lucky
Another option is there should be a desert race guy...
Exactly, I'm pretty new to this but I have seen it done that way, by multiple mechanics I respect, and I've done it that way myself.
I could see where releasing that collar set screw under too much pressure might damage something I suppose.
A valid course of action.
The coil spring makers always say to remove the springs.
In practice 95% of the desert guys adjust them on the vehicle.
The more likely story is your original installer did not leave the collar set screws in an accessible part of the rotation, so now they have to...
LOL welcome to your 40's. Personally I would sweat 1" of lift - 4 turns on your collar. After 2" is where things get more and more stressed. Another option is to have good limiting straps to save the fenders and keep it as is. Another thing to look at is rod ends and joints that allow more...
If your not adding allot more weight then get it, or if your not going great gonzo on a build get it. If you do decide to upgrade the coil springs however you can sell them for good money. Going to 37's might be enough to really compromise the coilover. The real issue with the fox shocks is it's...
I have long travel (Foutz) you don't need to match the front width.
I have 1.4" Borne Offroad spacers on the back. A sligjtly.narrower rear is fine. I can sell you the 2 I took off my front end for whatever half price is. They are solid aluminum.
I went middle of the road I guess. I have Metal Cloak Rear lowers, and CORE 4x4 extreme pan hard bar. The upper rear control arm is still stock for now. I have Accutine King's on their as well. The back end is noticeably more supple then stock with zero vibration.
I could feel/see the extra...
Man check out the new RIDE stuff. Massive fittings, massive oil flow, looks like an upgraded Fox. I may even swap out my King's for Ride. They are a sister company to Accutune, which is an awesome proven company.
Looks to be a really nice solution. I throw a few Mexican blankets up there in the winter on top of my JTOP , more for a little extra insulation and having some spare blankets in the Mountains is never a bad idea.
I enjoyed reading your thoughtful analysis. I only mean tto offer my perspective. That OEM Fox shock would have been great for me provided I never added any weight to the front end or had not gone to bigger tires.
The Hoss 3.0 isn't a true aftermarket Fox 2.5. I know it wasnt adjustable for height or ride, and the reservoirs on my King 2.5's is massively larger. Diameter of the main shaft may have been 2.5. If the word retarded was allowed I'd call the OEM Fox's a retarded variant of the Fox 2.5.
I'd...
Accutune was great to work with. They even helped and were super gracious when the rear springs weren't quite right for me.
I have 0 offset and 1.3" Borne Spacers. So pretty fat, so far so good. I The Accutune custom King's feel very dialed in.
I have maybe 4-5" of scrub radius up front...
