Iām on my third front diff and transfer case. Iām doing the lemon law route if that helps. Ford customer service isnāt helpful, but youāre lucky you got the part quickly. First time mine had to be replaced was in the shop for 28 days. Iām currently on day 50 for the third front diff replacement...
I wonder if the motion of a hard turn left or right while the transfer case is locked in 4h or 4l and some of the wheels have or donāt have traction could cause the failure? In combination with possible low or dirty driveline fluids? In my case I was also definitely trying to turn the wheels in...
The parking job would get an eye roll from me, whatevs. If itās fun for the driver then š¤·āāļø. But Iāll be damned if I get shamed on this forum for putting caramel and extra foam on my macchiato!
well hearing it was an equipment failure pleases me greatly. As when I returned from the day and informed my husband I got stuck and it sounds like the transmission is wonky again he very timidly asked me āare you sure itās not user error? Since it happened twice?ā
Of note, yes I do plan on...
I was not on a city street. It was definitely picture 2, driving down the road in 4h but I guess I should have been in 4A. In fact, Here is the exact picture of where I was stuckā¦ā¦..
and thank you for that very succinct explanation of what the transfer case does in 4A and 4h. Iāve peeled...

hrm, 𤨠ok I thought the lockers were supposed to be used when you had wheels spinning. This is not what they are for? But yes, if the transfer case failed when I think it did then it was probably at the point when I was stuck and put the rear locker on in an attempt to get un stuck
š¤¦āāļø fully kicking myself for not using the GOAT modes. I think part of me just brushed them off as a fancy gimmick. Guess I know better now š
we can all laugh at me because Iām definitely laughing at myself *
* only because itās being repaired under warranty
I will gladly offer up the technician write up when itās given to me if that would shed any light on whatās caused the problem. It does sound like they arenāt really going to do much investigating at the actual repair shop itās at currently though and have just decided to turf the part to ford...
Also super helpful. Thank you šš»
I wish the dealer would listen when I asked them to check the fluids. Looks like Iām about to have to crawl up under there myself and learn a few things
