Only one way to find out for sure. Pop that panel off and have a look. There's probably a clip or tie that came loose and lets something bounce around a bit. If so it should be an easy fix.

IMO it's not junk when used as intended. I have used mine to change a couple of flat tires and to do 5 tire rotations with no issues. Would I trust it with my life? No way, but it is adequate for the task at hand.
