  1. MIC Top 2.0 First Look? [Speculation]

This doesn't match what I know to be the 2.0 top - there is still exposed core on the downward-facing edges on the clamshell and errant overspray of the black sealant used to coat the unfinished edges in the first version. What makes us think this is the new top?
  2. Ford will start shipping new MIC hardtops, Broncos this week! 🚛

We didn't think they could do it, but they did. The scale of this operation will make for fun reading in the years ahead... I doubt there have been many other situations with tooling components being express airlifted to meet an impossible deadline. Tooling was up and running Friday and from...
  3. The Bronco Pickup has been cancelled ❌

Some clarity. A specific planned product - a 4 door "lifestyle" Bronco pickup planned for MAP - has been canceled. There is still development underway on products to expand the Bronco brand.
  4. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

Unfortunately, I think this has more to do with filling the order books in accordance with their currently planned timeline. FE reservation holders should feel good about getting their rigs this year, but I think any getting built in September is incredibly optimistic
  5. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

The schedule is optimistic, but the new tooling will be installed by the end of next month. Once that happens, it really shouldn't take THAT long to build out the 3,000 or so necessary units to address shipped rigs and the sandlot kids. From there they'll be able to finish all the FE units and...
  6. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

No - the entire roof assembly is being replaced. This is being described this way as they won't ship the "replacement kits" to the dealers with the glass in place. It will need to be installed in the new cap by the dealer.
  7. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

I hope they take this opportunity to reassess the headliner as well. It's an insult to halfassed efforts everywhere.
  8. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

Lots of people are assuming this means a new supplier, but I don't have any confirmation of that. From what I can tell, this new tooling for the MIC hardtops is being designed and paid for by Ford and will be installed at the Plymouth plant for Webasto to produce. The MOD tops coming in 23 are...
  9. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

The design will look very much the same (and be the same color, to those of you asking). Main points to address in the update: - Rolled /finished edges where there were formerly raw cuts. - Thicker, more uniform outer layer of material. - Improved injection process to fix forming issues in the...
  10. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

Hey, you have every right to be a dick. This has been a mess. The design issue is the unfinished edges. Initially, these were to be treated and sealed but it was never successful. The "coating" applied at the plant lasted for about a week, if that. The other issues plaguing the MIC top -...
  11. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

No. MIC hardtop production for unscheduled First Edition builds will resume late this year with the updated hardtop design. I wouldn't expect this until probably November, as the new tooling still needs to be completed, installed, and tested before production of the new hard tops can begin. Once...
  12. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

All new tooling and an altered design. It became quite clear that even when manufactured exactly to spec that the design was flawed. The timeline here is optimistic, but the right move nonetheless.
  13. 📣 Ford announces MIC hardtop solution (program 21B49): unscheduled orders will get MY2022, delivered & built Broncos will have tops replaced

New All new tooling and an altered design. It became quite clear that even when manufactured exactly to spec that the design was flawed. The timeline here is optimistic, but the right move nonetheless.
  14. Painful (but responsible) solution to MIC issue decided. Announcement imminent.

Snagged tickets to see Shannon Powell at Preservation Hall on Saturday!
  15. Painful (but responsible) solution to MIC issue decided. Announcement imminent.

MIC info will be released soon enough. Also, as of today "full speed" production has been delayed indefinitely, as Rangers will far outweigh Broncos on final at least thru the planned MY21 run. Bronco's dedicated body shop has been sandbagged to spread work between both shifts.
  16. Painful (but responsible) solution to MIC issue decided. Announcement imminent.

So it's apparent that they've charted out their solution to the MIC issue. It's painful and it's going to contribute to some ugly headlines over the next few days, but it's the most responsible solution. If you're low on booze, pick yourself up something good to get you through a few rough...
